Ok, Hi I am new here. I have been on every anti-depressant, OCD, anxiety drug ever created. I currently have been on xanex for over 7 years. And valium on and off to help me sleep, although they give me nightmares. Well I started on the lamactial about 2 1/2 weeks ago I felt ok, I got a few blisters in my mouth (I understand that is a side effect) Now I know this drug is for mania or bipolar disorder. I am not sure I even am manic, but I guess the dry thinks so..... My boyfriend says that my mood has evened out and I felt great for the first week or so, but now it is in my system a little more and I upped the dose 3 days ago to 50mg as instructed. I find myself freaking on him all the time for no reason. And feeling very claustrophobic having to leave the house or office immediately. A couple of xanex subside this. I don’t know whether to stay on them because I think over all I feel a bit better. But I really feel manic now and will these side effects go away or will I go crazy. Because right now I just don't feel right in the head. And I was wondering if any one else got this way. Also I get pain sometimes so I take vicodin or Darvacette, can these be a bad mix... Please help!
Feeling odd....

I just wanted to say that although Lamictal is approved for bipolar, it is widely used for people who are not bp--like for depression, especially when other stuff hasn't been very helpful. However, (I think) it needs to be taken along with an antidepressant to be helpful--do you currently take one?

Also, it sounds like your doc is really leaving you in the dark. He should really be doing more to make sure that you know why you are taking a drug and potential side effects. Is he a psychiatrist or just your regular doc? If he's not a psychiatrist, you should get one. This stuff can be too tricky for docs who didn't specialize in it.

I can't speak so much about the side effects of Lamictal. I was on it for a bit, but I didn't have any side effects (or effects for that matter!)

Best,
EE

I had the same experience with Lamictal, with each dose increase. Everyone is different, but I had a pattern with each dose increase of feeling bad for a couple of days, then good for a week or so, then it would poop out. I got to 150mg and this was still going on so I quit taking it. After 100mg the side effects such as memory loss and headache got bad also for me.

Sounds a little like panic attacks. Have you told your pdoc about it? Fondly, Phillipa

Maybe if you increase your dosage more slowly. A counselor showed me I could do that with any of my meds. The pills breack easily. These doctors have no personal experience with the meds they prescribe. Everybody is differrent anyway.
