New med for anxiety/GAD

Posted by UgottaHaveHOPE on December 10, 2005, at 6:28:06

This summer on a whim I was recommended to try Seroquel, a mood stabilizer, for GAD/anxiety which I suffered for eight long years. My grandmother was bipolar and they thought I had some of the same characteristics, which I did. But I was not bipolar.

However, Seroquel ended up being a miracle drug for me for GAD/anxiety. This was something that had absolutely positively ravaged me for eight long years. It controlled my life. The Seroquel, it just took it away, Seroquel is the med used when ppl get really jacked up, they give it in 800mg or more. I was prescibred 100mg twice daily for GAD/anxiety.

I have taken more than 30 meds over the last eight years. None of them worked for me. This worked. I felt it the first time I took it. I was asleep within 30 minutes of taking it. I felt like I was shot by an elephant dart. Yes I still get groggy and tired from taking it, but it is worth the trade off. It terminated the racing throughts, the rush of directionless energy, the GAD/anxiety.

I started on 200mg/day and then went to 100mg/day and am now down to 25mg per day. I take it at night with 1mg of Klonopin. Thats it. To combat the grogginess, I try to eat light and when I need to really be awake, I drink caffeine.

I personally think Seroquel is one of the best meds ever invented. As you know, every med affects everyone differently. And Seroquel may or may not work for you for anxiety and depression. No promises here. But I can just about assure you that it will help you with sleep, providing you are not taking any meds that conflict with it. Or just take it alone.

It is just now finally being prescribed for GAD/anxiety. Your pdoc may or may not have the confidence to let you try it. You probably will have to sell the idea to she or he. I tried it by fluke and it has been an absolute miracle for me.

Here's hoping for a miracle for you, whether it be Seroquel or something else ....

My chemical answer was something else but was a miracle for me also. Glad you found yours and here's to the desire for more to be able to express that wonderful finding and feeling.

It's good to hear a positive response to a med. How long did it take you to regulate the doseage so you were able to drive etc. And what meds do you feel interfer with sleep. Fondly, Phillipa
