Effexor took me from deep depression to normalacy

Posted by The Bunnie on November 2, 2005, at 4:42:33

Doing a google for effexor certainly opens your eyes. I was in a double blind study and found out that I was on Effexor XR.

At the end of the week that I had ramped up to three 75mg a day, I realized that I was not crying every morning, that the world was not all black, that I wasn't responsible for everything that went wrong and that I can't fix everything that is wrong and I wasn't a failure for trying to do that.

It is disheartening to see others who have had problems with this med. I can only hope that I don't burn out on this one as I did on Paxil and Wellbutrin and so many others.

I have come from the point that I really, really wanted to die every day, mornings were the most horrible for some reason I don't understand, to where I function pretty much normal.

There are factors in my life concerning someone else that will deteriorate and that I can't fix and that have caused me huge pain before. I can only try to maintain my stability in what will become a much more miserable situation.

I may or may hit hit a point where Effexor XR causes me problems, but so far my blood pressure is 100% normal, I have energy to stay up until the wee hours of the night and get a few hours of sleep and my appetite has gone down so much that I have lost 20 pounds in about two months and my blood sugar has come down to normal most every day with the occasional spike from eating a bunch of bread.

I will see what happens as months go by but for now, this has been a great return to a normal life (not that my life could ever have been considered normal - way too mild for The Bunnie.)

I had a family member who used to say:

"Praise the horse that pulls you out of the well"

I think these meds (maybe all meds?) will always have their delighters and decriers and all opinions and experiences inbetween. I also have a med that is working well for me - enjoy your good fortune and try to live in the now of the experience. I'm happy for you.

That's great to hear. Too many people become terrified of medications when they read stuff on the internet. The internet is a great source of information, but keep in mind that people who have problems with a certain drug are more likely to post to a discussion group in order to get input from others about what changes can be made.

Although I have never taken Effexor, it has a great reputation as being safe and very effective. Your current dose is not particulary high, so don't hesitate to go higher in the future if necessary.

Bunnie,

I hear ya sister! I've been enjoying the benefits of Effexor as well. My only struggle is the lack of energy I feel that it causes. I will hopefully combat this with an additional med, possibly Wellbutrin. Good luck and glad to hear it's working well for you!

Wow, lack of energy? That is different for me. I have been wired for energy. I usually worked until 11 or midnight and now I keep on until two or three in the morning and don't feel sleep deprived the next day. I've never taken speed, but I have to believe this is what it feels like, go, go, go, go, don't stop to eat, just go, go, go.

I believe Effexor has wildly different effects from person to person and so far I am just very lucky. Almost no appetite, losing weight, more energy than I've had since I was 17.

I'm not touting this as a wonderful thing for everyone because we all have different chemicals running around in our brains and I have no doubt that it works far less in some people and is terrible for others. Everything I took before stopped working and I just have to wait and see if this keeps me stable long term.

It really is wonderful to not sit and cry every morning and plan your death every morning.

Thanks, The Bunnie

maybe I need Effexor...

Seriously, I'm so glad it's working for you.

What can nearly kill one person can save another's life.

Whatever works well for you.

If it takes chemicals to make you live a happy life, than so be it! We only get one chance at this.

Thanks » The Bunnie

Bunnie, thanks for posting a success story, especially as your very first post! Usually people come to Babble when things *don't* work and seem to leave us in the dust when things do!

I must remember that if (when?) something ever works for me I will regularly return to Babble to encourage others.
