check out this, marajuanna promotes neurogenesis !

Posted by linkadge on October 16, 2005, at 17:34:32

This study says that marajuanna is the only drug of abuse that promotes neurogenesis.

The drug resembles an antidepressant in other ways too.

Well, i dont much about maryJ but i have heard it has been known to cause Schizophrenia, maybe it makes too many nuerons.

Well thats just my put, no negitive offense to what you said.

That would be something if they came out with Marijuana or call them MaryJ's ciggarrettes on the market. THat would skyrocket.... but there would be alot of change in society. Go from Nicotine to THC. ROLF

THanks for posting that is intresting.....

I have never done any illegal substance except marajuanna (twice).

The first time it made me paranoid, but the second time it was so much fun. It killed my anxiety dead, and I slept like a baby.

The world became so bright and colorfull, and I giggled incessantly for a few days.

I'd do it again, but I have no way of knowing if I'd get stuff like the second time or like the first time.

That's a really interesting article.

I think marijuana, like alcohol, affects people in different ways.

Some people are incredibly jolly, happy drunks. Some people can become angry and abusive when drunk.

Some people are chill and happy when stoned. Some people become anxious and paranoid when stoned.

Effects on personality aside, I think the finding with regard to neurogenesis is an interesting one. If this finding is confirmed by other studies in the future, it would be interesting to see what effects marijuana could exhibit on the retardation of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

I used marijuana years ago in college. I can't say that it made me socially smart, or better at doing math problems (can anyone say 'zero short-term memory'?). However, I especially liked it for language study. I credit it with helping me to learn language better. It is hard to describe, but when I listened to my language tapes, it felt as if I was "absorbing" the language. In turn, my language teachers told me that I was one of the best students they've had. (Perhaps I would have done just as well without marijuana, but it should did make the hours of listening to those tapes a lot more fun).

Maybe the improved ability to absorb languages is like the often reported improved appreciation of music. Similar brain functions involved.

Declan- That's very interesting. I've been playing guitar for years and took six years of Spanish in middle/high school. I'm usually pathetic at the guitar despite my efforts, and even with all those years of academic Spanish, I couldn't speak it. During my only true remission (a Nardil/Dexedrine combo), I was speaking Spanish to my Mexican buddies in the kitchen like it was my native tongue. I could NOT beilieve it- like "where is this coming from?" It was mind-boggling to hear myself speak Spanish so naturally, fluidly and comfortably. Similarly, I played inspired guitar for those coupla' months- total improvisational control- I could finally give birth to the music as I heard it in my head. I wish I had recordings to play for researchers and/or med skeptics to hear what AD-induced remission did to my ear musically and linguistically. The disparity would make a person gasp and respond with a "that's just not possible."

Tried it once. It made me shiver all over and become attracted to someone I didn't even like. I would have slept with him but my common sense said " hey you don't find him attractive". I got into my car and felt like I was in an airplane. Next day I taught an Aerobics class and felt more relaxed than I ever had before. Nothing bothered me at all. And later that night I was teaching another class and half-way through crashed.

And you know they give marinol to cancer patients to increase their appetite. Fondly, Phillipa

When I was a complete pothead my weight was a steady 170, after 2 months on Adderall I've gained 10 lbs. Marijuana was much more motivating too, go figure...

Actually, if it were legal, I would do pot and omega 3.

My experiences with MJ in my teen years (high school days) were not the most pleasant.

I felt like I was drifting away; like I was lifting up into the air and disappearing.

It reminded me of how I feel on that laughing gas at the dentist office.

It nearly creates panic in me. I don't like it.

Besides, it won't go over well now with my church member's. ROFL

I knew it had to be good for something. After all I smoked it all those years.

It is virtually without dispute among any researcher with sufficient insight and lack of self-deception that marijuana can be more legitimately classified as a medicinal substance that most any other medicinal substance out there.
