Need help researching

Posted by daisym on October 16, 2005, at 13:07:30

I would like to research medications for depression and/or trauma work but I seem to keep running into web sites run by the manufacturers. I guess I'm jaded...

any suggestions of a more balanced presentation?

Thanks
Daisy

This site won't give you much in-depth knowledge, but I always start there just to find out what a med is and what it compares to.

http://www.crazymeds.org/

Then after that I head elsewhere, based on what I found out.

http://www.remedyfind.com can be a good start place, too.

Well, it kinda depends on what you're looking for. If you're just looking to find out about things like side effects, dosage, contraindications, etc, rxlist.com is my first choice. It has the most complete information I've found. Medlineplus.com has a quick and dirty version of the same sorts of information, and is also on my list when I'm checking on meds.

SLS's page about meds is a GREAT resource, too: http://sl.schofield3.home.att.net/medicine/psychiatric_drugs_chart.html It has information about which neurotransmitter systems each med works on, etc.

There are a lot of other sites, too, that I've found helpful, but it's pretty specific. I think biopsychiatry.com is one of them, if I've got the URL right. They've got short summaries of a lot of different sorts of information.

I hope that helps. If you can give a little more info on what you're looking for, there are a ton more. In fact, if you wanna email me some of what you're looking for, I can send you some of my bookmarks.

Take care.

Www.pubmed.com is a good place to do research. You won't get full articles, but you will get shortened abstracts of various studies, clinical trials, and case studies. You'll get tons of details. Type anything you want into the search box and be prepared to read for hours or days. Use "AND" or "OR" in the search box to combine two words and fine tune your search.
