Cymbalta side effects?; Update on my meds

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on October 13, 2005, at 5:50:37

Well, I took a little break from the board (again) because my last drug combo ended up not working too well for me as far as adverse effects go. Since all Able Labs products were removed from the market, Medicaid would no longer pay for my generic methamphetamine HCl, and despite multiple appeals, would not pay for Desoxyn. *So*, I switched back to the old standby, Adderall, at 20mg three times daily but had to quit as I was developing severe neurotic excoriosis (skin-picking) from the drug. Last I posted, my regimen was:

Prozac 40mg daily
Xanax 4mg four times daily
Klonopin 2mg twice daily
Methamphetamine HCl 15mg four times daily
Seconal 200-400mg before bed as needed)
Xyrem 2.5 grams four times daily
Dexalone 30mg three times daily
Enada-NADH 20mg twice daily
DL-Phenylalanine 2 grams three times daily
Calcium/Magnesium Chelate
Phenibut
Fish Oils
Multivitamin and Multimineral Supplements
Antioxidants
Liquid Sublingual B-Vitamin Complex

Long list, I know, lol. It's been pared down quite a bit though, particularly on the prescription pharmaceutical side of things. Currently, my regimen is:

Cymbalta 60mg daily
Xanax 6mg four times daily
Klonopin 4mg three times daily
Seconal 100-200mg before bed as needed (only rarely these days)
Cozaar 100mg daily (for mild hypertension)
Enada-NADH 20mg twice daily
SAM-e 400mg daily
DL-Phenylalanine 2 grams three times daily
Calcium/Magnesium Chelate
Fish Oils
Multivitamins, minerals & antioxidants
Liquid Sublingual B-Vitamin Complex

I've been on the Cymbalta for four days now, with no ill effects. It helps me sleep more soundly at night, thusfar allowing me to miss four nights of Seconal. What's going to be difficult is discerning the effects of the Cymbalta from those of the SAM-e, since I began the SAM-e just a week ago and I am already familiar with the effects of the other drugs. (I've been on Hyzaar before, containing losartan potassium and HCTZ, and Cozaar is just the losartan, so I pretty much know what to expect there.)

So, any experiences that anyone out there could recount to me about side effects of Cymbalta, their *real life* incidence (i.e. not based on those stupid graphs in the PI inserts), whether long-term users of Cymbalta have noticed side effects disappearing eventually, whether 60mg is a high dose to start on (I believe it is.......), and, perhaps most importantly, lol -- how does Cymbalta affect orgasmic/ejaculatory function?

Thanks, folks! :-)

Hello Ame,

If you have some possible cyclothymic activity and dysthymia, wouldn't a mood stabilizer be a possible positive addition? I searched the archives to see if you had taken lithium and couldn't find anything. Low dose lithium as an augmentation strategy may allow you to reduce the amount of other drugs you are on. Just a thought.

I seem to have a similar dx with lots of poop outs and yearly cycles to my atypical depressions. I would typically get a good response at the beginning of AD treatment(first 3 weeks), followed by diminishing returns, followed by more add ons with similar results.

Last year I was on Wellbutrin SR 450mg, Prozac 40mg, Adderall XR 30mg. This spring and summer I was on Parnate up to 100mg a day. Since yesterday I added 300mg Wellbutrin SR to the 5mg Selegiline that I've been on the last couple weeks and have had a nice boost. DLPA and Selegiline tended to be too anxiety provoking for me.

In the past I have also been on Lamotrigine, Moclobemide, and Effexor.

Starting next week I am going to add on low dose Lithium therapy aiming for a blood concentration of 0.4(I forget the units). I'm hoping it will prevent my winter dip that usually starts in November, and increase the efficacy of my current AD's.

My grandmother was bipolar 1 or 2. She committed suicide before I was born. And my sister is dx'ed with some sort of schizoaffective disorder which most possibly could be bipolar 1. Her med regimand is 60mg Celexa, 15mg Zyprexa, and Lithium therapy. The Lithium add-on greatly improved her well-being.

My dx depending on the day is: :)

Social anxiety
Atypical depression features
Dysthymia
Cyclothymia ?
