Wellbutrin - What is it used for?

Posted by Deneb on October 5, 2005, at 18:36:07

P-doc no.2 keeps asking me if I've ever discussed taking Wellbutrin with p-doc no.1. P-doc no.1 knows me very well but she is on maternity leave right now. She wasn't much of a meds person at all. She only gave me Celexa and 5 doses of propranolol.

Why is p-doc no.2 asking me about Wellbutrin? I know it is used as an anti-depressant and smoking cessation aid, but why Wellbutrin? Why would it be helpful to add Wellbutrin to Celexa?

I have borderline traits (among others I'm sure), have had recurring depressions (not sure if *real* depressions though), social anxiety and weird thoughts sometimes.

I'm also trying out 0.5mg of Risperdal right now.

So, what's the deal with Wellbutrin??

Deneb..

Welbutrin will make your anxiety *much*, much worse. I really wouldn't suggest it. Do you still take Celexa with your Risperdal? That is a good combo. Or maybe Risperdal and another SSRI.

Let us know..

Best,
Jay

I'm taking 50mg Celexa with 0.5mg Risperdal right now. I just noticed today in the waiting room that I wasn't anxious! I usually get pretty bad anticipatory anxiety, even after repeated visits. I don't seem to have any side effects other than maybe a slightly stuffy nose at night and I'm not even too sure if the Risperdal caused that.

I'm experiencing a drop in motivation, so maybe that is why he suggested Wellbutrin?

I'm trying out another 2 weeks with the Risperdal to see how things go. It's really difficult for me to tell whether things have improved for me because I forget how bad things get when I feel OK.

Thanks for the tip on Wellbutrin Jay!

1) Major Depressive Disorder and
2) a smoking deterrent,"Lippincott's 2002 Drug Guide"

However, it is commonly added for energy and to help increase a persons libido.
Anxiety is a common side effect that i have experienced on Wellbutrin but the low doses of Klonopin and my Effexor help that.

I have MDD and GAD (and BPD to boot), and I'm doing a lot better on Wellbutrin than I did on Celexa. So much better that I was able to drop Risperdal. Go figure. :) Just goes to show that meds affect everyone differently.
