WELLBUTRIN making my BOOBS hurt and SWELL

Posted by SeekingAdvice on September 25, 2005, at 12:22:42

Greetings,

Wellbutrin is making my boobs swell and sore.

Anyone have this problem?

Does anyone know if Wellbutrin worsens PMS symptoms?

I'd appreciate any input greatly. Thank you.

I've only been on Wellbutrin about 2 1/2 weeks however, it has made this period HORRIBLE. My cramps are worse, my bleeding is heavier and my period is longer than usual.

Interesting...

I don't have menstruation changes like you. I only have these symptoms from Wellbutrin during the 3 weeks BEFORE my period.

Yes, I ONLY get 1 WEEK WITHOUT BREAST PAIN pain each cycle!! Could you imagine??

It's the price I'm willing to pay for an otherwise great drug that really helps me conquor ADD and DEPRESSION.

I was on it a year ago and had the EXACT same (hormonal) symptoms:

-sore breasts
-swelling breasts

I have noticed some facial swelling as well. It just baffles me!

If anyone knows how to begin researching this through REPUTIBLE SOURCES- please chime in!

Have a lovely, mentally well-balanced week, Babblers.

Love,

NE and menstruation

I did a little bit of searching on this, because of my own experiences with it, and about all I could find was a couple of long, dense articles about how NE affects the female hormonal cycle. Really dense, as in "I understood about one word out of three -- including 'the' and 'and.'" I think most of them were veterinary, too.

What I do know is that Strattera changed my cycle from two and a half day periods every 22 days, to 6 or 7 day periods every 28 days. The doctor who prescribed it -- Dr EyeCandy/GraduatedLastInHisClass, if you're keeping track -- didn't address the issue, but a PA I saw for something else actually {gasp} asked me if Strattera had affected my cycle! My goodness, that's a fellow who's obviously in the wrong line of work, huh?

If it's changing hormonal cycles, though, which I guess is how it's changing menstrual cycles, I'd guess that's what's causing your sore and swollen breasts. Yuck. (I'm multi-D myself, so if my breasts got swollen, well, I'd probably cry...)

For what it's worth, I haven't noticed any changes of the sort on Wellbutrin. {shrug} Hope something there helps.

Hu guys!

Well NE definately affects menstral cycles -- I was on reboxetine a while back, which is a potent NE reuptake inhibitor, and my periods completely stopped and made me more greasy. Since quitting rebox, my periods have resumed. I'm now trying wellbutrin and I haven't noticed my breasts swelling anymore than usual.......

Have you thought about going on a birth control pill? This would stop any hormonal changes. (i think!?)

take care
xx
