Hey -- when did this agitation start? Like, with your depressive symptoms? Or, after you started one of your medications? And, can you describe it a bit better. Is it like anxiety? Or is it like you have this need to move?

Thx,
felicity

Good questions. And isn't wellbutrin the only AD to use with bipolar? Fondly, Phillipa

same. Also I fight off sleep all day as I feel so exhausted. I go to bed at 9 and sleep about 10-11 hours. Does anyone remember how Periactin helps in this regard? It was once prescribed for me but I've forgotten why. Meanwhile, I'm with you on this. It's a terrible feeling. Do you rub body parts together like your feet and do you breathe like a train, particularly on exhale? This is what I get. Even in my sleep apparently. All the best
Fred

What happens when you take a tricyclic?

Diazepam is my benzo of choice for outright agitation. 10-40mg/day in divided doses. A good starting dose is 2mg qid or 5mg tid.

I think the best thing would probably be to either raise the dose of seroquel, or add a benzo.

Hi bps,
Though rare with the use of the atypical antipsychotics, akathisia is still a problem that arises. I will always remember that terrible feeling of inner restlessness from 15mg of Abilify. Just a quess without additional info.
Take care,
Jedi

"...Akathisia is best managed by prevention. The dosage of the neuroleptic can be decreased or the medication changed to alleviate symptoms.11 There are several medications that can be used to help alleviate symptoms. Beta blockers are the most effective and well tolerated agents for akathisia. Anticholinergics have produced equivocal results in akathisia, and their use is limited by side effects such as blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention.12 Benzodiazepines have some efficacy in acute and chronic akathisia. Other medications that have been used to treat akathisia with some success are cyproheptadine, clonidine, and mianserin.2"

bipolar agitation? I used to take lithium but now take lamictal (also effexor and klonopin). The lamictal helps with agitation. I take it 3 times a day and when I forget the middle dose I get agitated. The klonopin works GREAT for the agitation. I take it about once a day just as I start to feel agitated. terrics
