lamictal is my wonder drug

Posted by terrics on September 19, 2005, at 8:00:32

hi, I am sure lamictal has been talked about before but I just have a quick comment. I take effexor and lamictal..hopefully stopping the effexor soon. I am on 400 mgs. of lamictal...200mg at night 100 in the am and 100 mg about 2pm. This stuff works so well on me that if I forget the 2pm dose I know it soon after by my irritability, my urge to snap at people etc. So I call it the pill that reminds me to take it. LOL terrics

That is great to hear! I am still titrating up on it and am starting to have a more difficult time falling asleep. I take Ambien to help but I still have a "tired but wired" feeling. I'm hopinh it will resolve itself as I continue to take this med.
Otherwise it does feel like it is starting to smooth out the mountains and valleys of my moods.
(and I take Cymbalta 60mg per night for depression)

Clear Skies, when I was on cymbalta the pdoc said to take it in the morning. And BTW do you have any aches and pains? That's the only thing cymbalta did for me was get rid of them. I didn't know it until I stopped and backpain and other aches and pains returned. Fondly, Phillipa

I've made it up to 200mg now, and I can safely say that my mood is better than it was. On the way up, though, I did go through periods where just opening my mouth to talk required too much energy and motivation for me to manage. My poor husband, I hate that he has to go through this for me.

Anyway, although my mood is better, I am having a pretty hellacious time sleeping. It's partly not being able to get to sleep, but it's more the waking throughout the night, and so on. I still need my naps in the day, and I can't say I'm getting anything at all done, but at least it's a heckova lot better than it was last time we talked.

Hope it helps you, too.

Oh, I forgot to tell you all that I wake up all night too. So I take 0.5 mgs of klonopin. It works fairly well, but not 100% terrics

believe it or not in the last few days i have developed aching legs while trying to get to sleep.
lol this is not the first time i've had the complete opposite experience to others on the same med... and taking the cymbalta in the morning makes me into a big old couch 'tater. it is sedating for me!!
best regards

sometimes by reading this message boards, you get the impression that no medicine works for anyone. that is great that you have found something that brings you some relief. you might want to try 25mg of seroquel for sleep. it is much better than klonopin. that has been my own experience. again, congrats!

Thanks, I guess I am lucky. It took a long time to get the right meds because I had the wrong DX from some other p-doc. Once the new p-doc realized that I was bipoar she really fixed the med. situation. I have taken klonopin for years without developing an addiction so I am very used to it. The most I have taken daily is .75mg. and I have been on it for about 10 yrs. terrics
