best medication for uhh, interpersonal neediness?

Posted by iforgotmypassword on September 12, 2005, at 19:30:46

i find that my mood is often anesthesitized by being around people, and that a lot of my sadness revolves around loneliness. this makes me clingy and fake and overall disgusting. i heard that this is often regarded as a symptom of atypical depression, but also of personality disorders. is there any way i can treat it? i feel so stupid. i can never behave sensibly around people or not around them... ugh. i've alienated all of the people who used to be my friends, and all i can think of is one person that left me 4 years ago. does anything help this? talking sure as hell doesn't.

i'm thinking of nardil, but i'm overeating and gaining enough weight as it is... plus im not overly fond of the idea of stimulating my serotonin-2 receptors. :(

By talking do u mean to a T?
I have been through numerous therapists and have only found 1 that helped me by using behavior therapy. I have too lost all *friends* and isolate myself but i am the opposite of clingy. I push everyone away?. Do u live in the US b/c if so, i know Nardil is almost impossible to get?. What meds have u tried before? I'm no expert at all but i'll help the best i can.

my doctor will consider Nardil or nortriptyline. i have tried many different medications... Parnate, Prozac, Remeron, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, desipramine, Effexor, Luvox, Celexa, Paxil, medium dose trazodone, Zyprexa, Risperdal, Ritalin (IR, SR and Concerta), Dexedrine, and now lamotrigine and selegiline. i may ask about Desoxyn, but i don't know what he'll think about that or if it's even available in Canada.

i have trouble talking to a therapist, or to anyone, the only slight luck i have is when i am on mushrooms... anyone know the pharmacological properties of those and if any prescription meds share them?

You may not gain weight on Nardil; I didn't. Just exercise, which you may find easier than you think if the medication works for you.

Nardil is what I'd recommend as first-line for what you're talking about. I also hate sounding like a broken record, but opioids reduce interpersonal sensitivity/emotional dependency. you could try buprenorphine if nardil doesn't work, or try both together. I had horrible sexual dysfunction fromt he combination, though.

my behaviour is ridiculous, i am clingy but always socially anxious often to the point of being very avoidant in many instances but most problematically to the point where my interpersonal functioning is nonsensical and selfdestuctive.

Sounds a lot like me. Try and push yourself and get out. I know easier said than done. Fondly, Phillipa

Someone above, I forget who, was saying that small doses of LSD made him feel saner or something.

I feel a little shy about posting something controversial, but here goes. The most effective medication I have heard oif for facilkitating therapy is MDMA, which is a schedule 1 drug, cannot be p[rescribed. There are only a handful of (ethical) researchers still doing work with MDMA. Kind of messy when the war on drugs starts beating on psychiatric research.
