Nardil--I keep coming back to it

Posted by mack2099 on September 8, 2005, at 8:51:04

I've been on Nardil off an on (mostly on) for 18 years. After several years of chronic fatigue, doctors felt I was depressed even though I didn't think so. Tried a number of anti-depressants with no success. Then Nardil seemed to be the answer. I felt great on 60 mg. With Nardil and cardio exercise, I lost 40 pounds. Over time, Nardil seemed to lose its effect. I'd go off, try some others to no avail, then back to Nardil and got good results again. About 6 mos. ago, after 2 yr. weight gain of 80 lbs., new doctor insisted that I come off Nardil. He blamed it for weight gain. I slowly came off over period of @ 1 month. No major changes at first but after I was completely off Nardil for a month, depression and anxiety were bad. However, I began losing weight at a good rate so obviously Nardil was a factor in weight gain. Now I've been on 10 mg. of Lexapro for 4 weeks with no relief yet. I wanted to give it a fair trial but I've about decided this is not for me. At this point, Nardil seems to be the answer. With regular exercise, the weight gain effects of nardil see to be more managable. Any advice or anyone had similar experience. Please HELP!!!!!

i think you are right on target. you must exercise when taking the Nardil.

ive never taken nardil, but ive taken other meds that seem to slow down my metabolism and cause me to gain weight. if the med is working good, then i start working out so i can stay on it without big weight gain.

I started an exercise program when Nardil kicked in. I weigh 190lbs, am 6'2", and in the best shape of my life. It hink I could be slightly thinner if I weren't on it, but I am much closer to "buff" than I was before the med. Now if I only I could get the sexual dysfunction under control; what the hell is the use of being so much kmore attractive if I can't get it up!@# AZRGH!@#$!@#!@

I think a lot of people mistake water retention for weight gain. Do not be so sure about weight gain until you give a diuretic (50mg/day hydrochlorothiazide is a nice benign one, just eat a banana a day while on it for K+) a try.
