Weird stuff, sorry, it's got some evidence as being quite helpful for depression and this is the only prescribable form.

Is it an NMDA antagonist?

I don't really like it.

And people have accidents on it. (As I'm sure you can imagine).

G'day Ed

As you would know, ketamine sends you into a 'fugue' state, which is intriguing if you like musical fugues.

The first thing noticed is a change in proprioception where you are drawn down through the legs toward the opposite wall, and you think 'I'm gonna hit it' and then you think, but I can't, it's only a drug and I'm in a chair. The your hitting the wall is resolved in a way hard to explain, where the wall changes shape as do you, I suppose you go through it, maybe you merge through it and then you and it are part of something else, and everything is turning around like some giant ferris wheel.

Above a given strength of it you aren't there, which is what it's used for in medicine (eye surgery, cleaning burns).

You might come to awareness out in the trees (if you're looking at them) and think, 'bling! If my soul doesn't come back along this thread and if this thread is cut my soul is in the trees forever'. You might feel that you were like gumby, flat 1/8 inch thick but made of vibrating plastic. People go down wormholes and, I guess, hope to meet the warlock who conducts the druid rites etc. Feeligs of psychological death occur with a surprising calmness, all things considered.

Needless to say it's dangerous to do anything in such a condition.

I read someone saying that NMDA antagonists (someone correct me if I'm wrong) were, well, bad for you, unlike say psychedelics. Some brain damage to the something or other.

John C Lilly poisoned himself with it and wrote it up in his book 'Deep Self', he took thousands of doses in his isolation flotation tank and met his spirit guides and stuff.

I think it is an impure drug. Maybe I have managed to convey that, I dunno

Hi Dec,

>G'day Ed

You've revealed your Australian origin :-)

I like Bach.

Ketamine sounds interesting, but frightening. Did it make you panic? Like you'd get stuck in a K hole and never come out?

Heard this group of musicians last night, Ladies in Brass, all women with everything from tubas up and they started with a Bach fugue, absolutely lovely, a giant puzzle.

Getting stuck down a wormhole, yes it certainly occurs to you. Psychedelics are OK with me, at least in theory, so I don't dissaprove, I just think k is off somehow.

Haven't taken it for 15 or 25 years really, but once I took a lot. Better off taking acid for that sort of thing.

Hi Dec,

Ketamine sounds more disturbing than LSD :-(

Wait a minute. Didn't someone say ketamine has potential for treating depression? This sure doesn't sound like a promising route for overcoming depression.

Well yes, Ed.
Not neccessarily as frightening as LSD.
But without any of the redeeming virtues of the psychedelics.

I'm pretty sure there are huge differences between high and low doses, you can read anecdotal evidence of people who use it for chronic pain on line. My friend did a couple "bumps" and said the feeling was beautiful, with no psychedelic phenomena. Do you remember the doses you took Declan?

Yah, I think, but from a distance of 30years it could be wrong, 25-100mg IM or IV. I think the doses in medicine are possibly above the top end there.
