PLEASE HELP! I have no answer

Posted by becksA on July 12, 2005, at 0:52:34

This is ruining my life, my social anxiety situation is partially from the plain anxiety, but a lot of it stems from the fact that the past year or 2 it feels like my brain has totally gummed up, becoming hugely noticeable in social situations, which in turn causes the anxiety. My brain just feels super slow, I was playing basketball the other night and i didnt' know the guys, i would pass it to the wrong players for a while trying to get the teams down...they'd find that funny of course, i got super anxious....what could cause this gumming up of my brain (best way i can describe it) I AM intelligent, always have been, but this is holding me back BIGTIME. Ive been on all kinds of meds, most recently Lamictal for a long time that I'm weaning off to see if thats what that was....can lamictal do that? Any other ideas?
PLEASE!!!!!!! help

I think benzos are the gold standard for anxiety issues but I kinda remember your posts in the past and I think Xanax was a problem for you. If I'm confused about that, please forgive me.

I don't know - wish I did. An AD had worked well for me for garden variety mixed anxiety states and a bout with depression that happened to me. Klonopin, used rarely now, was great for me for several years.

The only advice I can offer is to keep working with your doc.

Small dose of an antipsychotic like abilify may be helpful to you in ordering your thoughts - anxiety can muddle your brain; abilify is supposed to help with anxiety as well as thought disorders, and it has the lowest EPS profile of all the antipsychotics.

Valium used to work like a charm to eliminate anxiety. Now I don't think any med works. I want to get off all meds and see if I'm really a humanbeing with feelings. Fondly, Phillipa

Since it's the gumming up that causes the anxiety I don't think benzos will do the trick. They certainly won't improve memory, or comprehension either probably.
I have all sorts of social problems that relate to incomprehension. I notice that in the early phase of amphetamine (reasonable moderate doseage) that I understand all the social things in time to cope with them. The world becomes comprehensible. It would be nice to bottle that sense of confidence and ability.
