Feeling anxious but Pdoc says I shouldnt!!!!

Posted by woolav on July 12, 2005, at 9:18:42

The last time I saw pdoc I mentioned to him that I was feeling more anxious than usual. And he said that was strange because he had added trileptal to my med combo and he says that along with the lamictal I take, should not cause anxiety, it should make me more relaxed..Well, then WHY am I feeling more anxious?? He said it could be that I just moved and am more stressed than usual? I dont know about that. I see him today and will tell him that I still feel like this. Has anyone else felt more anxious with mood stabelizers??????????
thanks
S

I got terribly anxious and irritable on lamactal
Angry and anxious on lithium and depakote.
I'm now taking tegretol..it isn't so bad but if I didn't take neurontin with it I'd still be climbing the walls
I suppose some can have a paradoxical effect--or maybe our dx's are wrong.
Maybe it takes many months to calm us down?

YES!!!!!!!-i am 2 b on 225 effexor xr(but only can handle 150) and 4mg of klonopin daily and although it helps my depression a great bit, my anxiety is still too high. I now have hypertension which the docs believe is do to STRESS so why am i taking the meds??? more is to much but they dont want to switch me b/c effexor is the 1st of many meds to help my depression. they have tried other benzos besides klonopin but they do not work as well. i see my doc as well 2day so i know how u feel. I hope things go well. keep me updated-take care

Effexor can raise blood pressure, too. Have your doctor look into that, maybe?

Also, there's a new drug called Cymbalta that has a similar mechanism of action to Effexor. That might help your depression, too, and might not have the same effect on your blood pressure.

Yes, Effexor can DEFINATELY raise your blood pressure. It was happening so often that the company was foced to put a warning on the website.

I got high BP on just 75mg.

Anyhow, the only way to be sure about the trileptal is to stop it for a few days and see if it improves. If so then tell your doctor straight out that it is "causing" anxiety.

I don't care what their dumb little books say, if it causes anxiety, then it causes anxiety.

I agree Link. We're all different. And how a med affects one person isn't necessarily how it will affect you. Fondly, Phillipa
