I am currently on effexor 75 once daily and colonopin as needed i am not doing as well as I would like I am looking for different meds people have tried that have worked for them and what side effects they have had. I want to discuss trying somthing else with my doc but I want to ask the right questions about different meds not just have her tell me Thank you

Hello..I have tried all of them, except MAOI's. Paxil worked for a while, but I acted way too weird. I have taken xanax for anxiety for years and that worked ok, until my tolerance went up and my pdoc didnt want to raise the dose, so she put me on klonopin..at first i didnt like it. But once I gave it a chance, its been great for my anxiety. I havent had a panic attack since i started it. Plus i am on prozac and mood stabelizers. I dont know if that has any effect on anxiety or not..how many mg of klonopin do you take? And are you just dx'd with panic/anxiety disorder??

I am on .25 to 5mg three times a day as needed, I cannot take ssri they have put me in the hospital twice for allergic reaction needless to say i found another doctor. I dont have panic attacks as such i am just speeding all day I have bad headaches, muscle sourness, shakes, sweats no energy my body is on high alert all the time. I have had mri, blood work, stress test, adreanal glands check every test you can think of they have gave to me. I am twenty 7
two children of my own and i adopted two children as well i just want to give them ther dad back!!

well, have u tried valium or ativan? those are alot milder than klonopin or xanax. So, you are feeling hyper inside, but your body is exhausted? Do you have depression as well?

no no depression i was on valium for a year three times a day my doc switch me to klonopin she said i had built up to much tollerence to the valium

Have you tried any of the non-benzo medications? I loved what propranalol did for my anxiety, and only wish it could be friends with Wellbutrin, since that's what works for my depression. Oh, well...
The beta blockers can put a cap on anxiety, for many people, and propranalol really came through for me. After about a year of anxiety so high that it was like being poisoned by adrenaline, about twenty minutes after the first dose, I was suddenly relaxed for the first time in so long I had forgotten what that was like!

yes i did and it worked great and the doc took me off it and i was fine for two years back then i was having just the occasional panic attack so that was the first thing i tried and it made my bp 84/44 by the way thanks for your replys this is the first forum i have ever been in

If you're looking for different anxiety meds, take a look at low dose seroquel or zyprexa. These are newer antipsychotic meds, but work well for all sorts of psychiatric things. Seroquel especially can be great for anxiety. It doesn't take much. These meds also can enhance your AD. And you can sleep good. I've tried both, and I'm on zyprexa, but I think seroquel was actually a lot better for anxiety.

Seroquel is not addictive. Like all psychiatric meds though, your body will become accustomed to the med and will react negatively if it is suddenly stopped. Insomnia, nausea, anxiety, flu like symptoms. That's pretty common with any of the meds out there though. But it isn't addictive in terms of making you crave another dose or crave bigger doses or getting high or anything like that.
