I'm apparently not a candidate for Topamax because of my kidney stones. Go figure. I almost didn't even tell her about the kidney stones until she asked about my general health.
I'm to go up slooooowly. And stop if I get the rash.
I've never really looked much at this drug.
Does it make you overly sleepy? Overly activated?
I'm so relieved I don't have to try topamax that I'm not worried yet about a new meds trial. I probably should be.
I'm hoping not to lose the improved mood since I went off Depakote.

lamictal is great! no side effects for me. I take it all at bed time (300mg). Don't worry too much about it! Hope it works, why did you go off Depakote if you don't mind me asking?

It wasn't effective for migraine prevention at the dose I could tolerate and be reasonably productive at. :(
I've been on it for years, and liked it fine for psych purposes, at lower doses.

Hi Dinah,
I have not noticed any side effects yet. I just moved up to 75 mg (25mg in a.m. and 50 mg in p.m.) on Monday. I have had a few periods of restlessness, but I've also had a few nights when I stayed up late to get work done. So I can't be sure it wasn't due to being sleep deprived.Good luck with it.

Hi Dinah,> Does it make you overly sleepy? Overly activated?
I found it a activating for a while. That eventually settled down.
At the beginning I had tight, painful neck and shoulder muscles, headaches, and was slightly fluish. These were annoying, but didn't stop me from being able to function. All of these resolved in a couple of weeks. You may, of course, have no startup side effects.
Good luck.

It helps to hear other people's positive stories.
My history with meds trials has not been encouraging. Somehow I "forgot" to take the new medication last night. :)
This is the end of the thread.
