lamictal side effects (not rash): please help

Posted by thankgodfornardil on May 17, 2005, at 11:02:24

Hi,
For 2 years I've been on Nardil, lamictal, and nortriptyline, and I had a lot of energy, even the tiniest bit hypomanic, which was in general a good thing. Recently I got a job and I was a little afraid of being overly talkative or animated, so my pdoc had me increase my lamictal from 200 to 250. Six days later I started feeling extremely tired and drowsy. That has been in the past few days. Today I started feeling slightly nauseated. My eyes have felt heavy and I've needed a lot more sleep than usual.
I'm really worried because I'm starting my job soon and need a lot of energy.
Has anyone here experienced drowsiness from increasing their dosage of lamictal? If it is from the lamictal I'd gladly go back to the old dosage and get my energy back, even if it means returning to slight hypomania.
Thanks so much.
CB

i didn't notice any increase in lethargy but i did notice the nausea which went away with time. Maybe the sleepiness will too for you?

Maybe find a happy medium somewhere between the old dose and the new one?

Personally though, I would go back to the old dose. Nothing wrong with touch of hypomania. I mean, there's good hypomania and there's bad hypomania. Yours doesn't sound like the bad. It sounds productive and stable.

How many days, weeks, months did you suffer before your med combination finally fixed things up pretty good? Be greedy, take as many good days as you can. They're yours. If your meds were working fine and even had you at a steady state of mild hypomania, I would go back to whatever did that. Just my opinion though.

Thanks Blueberry. What a breath of fresh air your message was to read. I think I will try the "happy medium" dose, and if I don't feel as good as before I'll just go back to the original dose. The people at my new job will just have to put up with my excitement and chattiness!

Just curious, how much Nortriptyline are you taking? Do you take it in the evenings?
