Does hair loss stop? (Lamictal)

Posted by tryingtobewise on May 16, 2005, at 18:13:31

Hi,

I am a 38 1/2 year old female. Until 8 weeks ago I had been taking a Lamictal / Celexa combo up to 150 mgs a day on the Lamictal. Back in December or January, I started losing a lot of hair. At first I ignored it, but then it really started bothering me even though you can't tell (yet anyway) by looking at me. I quit the Lamictal about 8 weeks ago but I am still losing a lot of hair. Should it have quit falling out by now?

I've taken Celexa for years, so even though it is a rare side effect with that med, I'm much more inclined to think it is Lamictal induced.

Thank you in advance!
Kim

Is hair loss a side-effect of Lamictal? I've been on 200 m.g. since July of last year and haven't experienced any significant hair loss of the non-receding hairline variety.

I lost hair on Lamictal and it eventually thickened back up to normal after a few months from stopping it.

Hey there. Yes, it does happen. The best thing you can do is take zinc and selenium every day. You will notice a difference in a month. Lamictal made me lose my hair as well. Ugh. But the zinc and selenium helped. There is also a shampoo you can buy in hair salons call Nioxin ( I think I have the name right). They have a shampoo that helps prevent hair loss (and guess what's in it ... zinc and selenium). You vitamin store might also have a special prepared mineral mix that you can try but the zinc and selenium is usually sufficient and cheaper than these concoctions. Like I said, it takes about a month. People who take Depakote often have to use it as well.

You can do a search on PB and type in hair loss and see what you come up.
