hi, it seems all the good ssris cause insomnia. i got through the celexa insomnia but went the insomnia went away, so did the medication. it pooped out on me. my doc gave me cymbalta but the first few ays ( i stopped after that) i only took 20mg and i still had insomnia. ugh.. i cant afford to get no sleep because I have a physical illness as well. it is horrible because im so depressed. and all the meds that dont cause insomnia cause weight gain ( such as remeron and serzone actually did for me i think) also serzone wasnt really helpful.. does anyone know if the insomnia will go away? because if it will, i might attempt to fight it out.. but im not so sure it will.. anyone know? i am EXTREMELy sensitive to anything even cough meds caus einsomnia in me...
ps-ive tried 5-htp and all the other natural remedies and they either didnt work or they pooped put on me. 5-htp was great for about four months though if anyone wants to try it.. def worked as well as an antidepressant with NO side effects.. but then just stopped working. well my main question is, will the insomnia go away? and hos everyone doing if anyones taking cymbalta?

I was on Prozac for eight years and the insomnia NEVER went away and never got any better. That was the kind of insomnia where you have difficulty falling asleep. With Celexa, I had insomnia where I woke up too early. THAT did get better with time.

ahh. thanks for the info.. it stinks to hear that. i wish icould be one of those people that are helped with sleep by taking ssris. oh well =( you definitely think the prozac was causing the difficulty falling asleep and that it wasnt just something you had before the prozac?

Well, I had been using Ativan for sleep before I went on any antidepressant. When I quit the Ativan I had severe insomnia for a while. It got a little better while on imipramine but when I went on Prozac it stopped getting better. I was on Prozac about nine years and during that whole time it took me about 2-3 hours to fall asleep at night. When Prozac pooped out, I switched to Effexor and within two weeks was falling asleep fairly easily (within 45 minutes). I wouldn't recommend Effexor to anyone, though. It helped me for four years (no anxiety) but coming off it was horrible. I think it permanently damaged my brain and left me prone to severe anxiety for the rest of my life.Cymbalta also was great for sleep for me. I could fall asleep on the couch. I could fall asleep an hour before my regular bedtime. It was great. Unfortunately it didn't work well for depression or at all for anxiety. I still think fondly about the months of falling asleep so easily while on Cymbalta though.

interesting about the cymbalta making you sleepy. maybe i just havent given it enouph chance.. ive only used it for about a week and had initial insomnia. how long were you on cymbalta for? i heard that the withdrawels were as bad as effexor? possibly because you werent on it for all that long you may not have felt the withdrawels so bad...

You could take the Cymbalta and add a small amount of Remeron. Not enough to gain weight, just enough to help to you sleep. Or you could add Amitryptaline or Surmontil in a small amount and you will sleep. I find they are much better than trazadone or seroquel.

hey, thanks, actually ive been using small amounts of amitriptalyne on and off but it doesnt seem to help as much as it used to. is remeron better u think than elavil? or about equal in helping me sleep. ( i dont care about being groggy in the am id love to be groggy if anything)
