MY EXPERIENCE WITH EFFEXOR

Posted by SWEATPEA on April 28, 2005, at 7:54:41

I STARTED TAKING 75MG OF EFFEXOR 2 YEARS AGO AND I HAVE NOT HAD A PANIC ATTACK EXECEPT WHEN I DRINK COFFEE IN THE MORNING. I WENT OFF OF EFFEXOR IT TOOK ME 2 MONTHS OF SLOWLY REDUCING THE DOSAGE. THE EFFECTS FOR ME WERE TINGLING IN THE FACE AND LIPS AND HEADACHES AND RINGING IN THE EARS. WHICH WENT AWAY AFTER THE 2MONTHS. THE PANIC ATTACKS CAME BACK WORSE THAN WHEN I STARTED THE EFFEXOR.

HAS ANYONE GONE OFF OF IT AND FOUND AND HERBAL SUPPLEMENT TO TAKE IT'S PLACE. WISHFUL THINKING.

I ALSO GAINED 35LBS WHEN TAKING PAXIL SWITCHED OVER TO EFFEXOR AND CAN'T GET THE WEIGHT OFF.
ANY SUGGESTIONS. HAS ANYONE GOTTEN ALL OF THE WEIGHT OFF STILL ON THE MEDICINE. I'M 40 NOW AND I KNOW IT'S HARDER ANYWAY.

I've heard that 40% of the people who take the mood stablizer, Topamax, lose weight

I took Effexor XR 225mg and Prozac 10mg for about three years. During that time, I gained about 50 pounds -- most of which came off on its own when I stopped taking it. I did nothing differently, but as my metabolism returned to baseline, the weight came off.

I hope that helps.

And for ease of reading, how about turning off your caps lock? :-)

I just read that zoloft is weight neutral. But the funny thing is that I didn't gain wt on Paxil. Fondly, Phillipa

I have heard that too. If I could I would take some of your weight:) because I need it. mu husband picks on me all the time about being "too skinney" I take Dexedrine, but so far I have only lost a couple of pounds.
When I took Zoloft I didn't gain any, but then again I have high metabolism.

Hi,

I have just come off Effexor after taking it for 8 months for GAD and apparently some obsesssional thoughts. I came off it because I felt better and because I put on 7 pounds, which has added onto the 11 pounds I put on when I was on Citalipram. I basically came off it over 2 weeks, I went for 75mg's - 35mgs for about a week I had that horrible head feeling and dizziness that you get. But now I feel absolutely fine. I feel way better mentally than before I went on it, a lot more confident socially, which I didn't feel before. The wierd thing is since I have come off it I feel less anxious, which I am suprised about.

Apparently according to my doctor taking effexor slows your metabolism down, as I tried everything to get my weight off, I was going to the gym everyday and nothing I did helped me loose weight. Since I have been off Effexor (2 weeks) I have lost 3pounds. I don't really know of any herbal remedies of the top of my head, but I looked them up on the internet. By the way I don't drink any caffiene anymore because it used to make me really anxious and panicky, perhaps you should try cutting it out for a while, it helped me.

Good luck with trying to loose weight, I know how annoying it is. I wish the doctors had told me before I started taking it that you can put weight on, instead of flatly denying it,

Rachel Sarah
