HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! Hopefully great strides will be made in 2005.
I was wondering, has anybody who's primary dx is social phobia used Lamictal as either monotherapy or as part of a cocktail? I've added it to Klonopin, and it seems to help with the low grade depression that Klonopin causes. I'm at only 37.5 mg/day.
If you've used Lamictal, what were the effects on social phobia, what dosage did you find most helpful, what drugs did you use it in conjunction with, etc.?
Feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Lamictal was prescribed more to help with depression, but I had read here and there hints that it could also help anxiety and was very hopeful. I have a mixed anxiety (GAD/social phobia). And I defninitely feel it has helped my anxiety. Not fearful of nothing and everything, noone and everyone. My greatest anxiety right now is that this effect will fade on me!!
It has not been long that I am on it. I am on 100mg currently, I am with a new pdoc and we are still rethinking my diagnoses. I most likely will combine it with an antidepressant (maybe desipramine?) and possibly a stimulant. But since I may be taking an antidepressant that causes weight gain, I am holding off upping the Lamictal in case we decide I could counteract weight gain my adding one of the weight-losing mood stabilizers like topomax or zonegran.
So in short, it helps my anxiety as I hoped it might.

I have been on Lamictal for augmenting medication for depression and have found very good anti-anxiety effects, including social anxiety which I have. I truly believe it should be studied for social phobia.
