Klonopin causing heart palpitations???

Posted by Spriggy on April 16, 2005, at 16:42:31

They just diagnosed me with an irregular heart rhythm. It crossed my mind that I never noticed any heart paliptations or reacing heart until after I started the Klonopin.

I take .12 in the morning and at night but my heart mostly races in the afternoon. Almost like clockword actually.

I've never thought this Klonopin was helping me- but my dr. is insistent that i remain on it (which I don't quite get since it's not helping). Anyway, is there any possibility it could be creating my heart racing/palp problems?

Spriggy, I don't think so. And it's such a low dose. How is the atenolol working? Fondly, Phillipa

Spriggy, by irregular heart rhythm, so you mean the way it races. You don't mean it skips a beat, right? Because the latter would be bad.

It could be the Klonopin. You never know. Weirder things have happened. Although you are on such a tiny dose. Really tiny. Why don't you taper off the med and see what happens. Maxime's rule #2. If you doctor isn't going to listen to about how meds affect you then it is your right to stop the med in question and inform your doctor of your decision. He was the same one who INSISTED you take the Sero-kill.

Maxime

PS - so it's an irregular heart rhythm meaning is speeds up for no reason (no apparant reason). It's not skipping beats, right? Because then you need to be on special med for this and need a thorough cardiovascular work-up.

When I took it occasionally (1mg). I had a more pounding heart but no palpitations. This increased unfortunately the anxiety. For occasional use only 2mg are sufficient for me, lower dosages not.

Yes, I am sorry. it doesn't skip beats, it just RACES big time. It makes me feel like I just ran up a flight of stairs.

I could almost swear it's the Klonopin because I take it around 10 a.m. This hits me in the afternoon.

My dotor called it "CVT" or something similar.

I haven't felt it skip a beat- just race out of my chest!

I had the more pounding heart only in the occasional usage. But I think it goes away if you take it permanently. The pulse and the force of contractility was increased of the whole heart. I have not yet checked if this is a common phenomenon.

kind regards

Yes Phillipa is right.. SVT (nm)
