15 mg of Dexedrine and then to bed

Posted by Maxime on April 10, 2005, at 15:14:46

So confused.

I took 15 of Dexedrine because I could barely move today. About an hour later I went to bed and fell asleep right away. I would still be asleep if my dog hadn't started barking at some phantom in my room.

My body feels so heavy and so does my head.

I'm going back to bed.

How long have you been taking Dexedrine. I have heard that after a while it can lose it's affect. It does not last that long for me either thats why I might be switching to adderall. My M.D. had prescribed the Dexedrine 15 mg for 2 times a day if I felt that I needed the second dose. Can you take a second dose?

I keep seeing Dexedrine so I'll have to look it up- I'm not sure what it is.

But I'm glad you slept- but I'msorry you have that heavy feeling. I HATE that feeling personally. Some people like it, it freaks me out.

Okay, I just read it's an amphetemine. But it put you to sleep??

I'd be bouncing off the walls and going nuts. I drank a latte today (a big no no right before church!). Such things are not good for the anxiety..

Are you feeling okay? not physically ill or have a fever?

That's so funny. I just started on Dexedrine last week. I only take a tiny bit (2.5) b/c I take lots of other meds. This AM I took one dose at 8, was sleepy, drank 3 cups of coffee, took a dose at noon, and then took a 1.5 hr nap! I couldn't imagine how I could fall asleep w/ all that in my system! No clue why that would happen. Guess that we are quirky!

best,
EE

Yep, when I was trying out Focalin, I tried a whole 5mg tablet about two hours before bedtime, and then I slept VERY soundly. When I was on Adderall I slept better too. My theory is that it gives your brain a vigorous "work-out" during waking hours, then it has to "shut-down" and you rest better.

Yes, but for me a it was a waking "hour" and then I fell asleep.

Maybe I will try Provigil.

Phillipa-

Actually stimulants like Dexedrine can help decrease anxiety in some cases. It decreases mine in social situations.

Some people respond the opposite to stimulants meaning they get sleepy instead of "stimulated." I've heard doctors say that that can be a sign someone has ADD/ADHD - but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate. I take Dexedrine 15mg 3x daily and there are some times when I can take long naps in the afternoon. I've noticed that when I do sleep while on Dexedrine that the sleep quality - to me - seems to be much better than usual. Not sure if this is just my skewed perception or what.

WHen I first started Dexedrine I noticed it made me very sleepy - but y the next dose it kicked in. I've been on and off it for 10 years or so and it still works great for me.

Hey Paul!

So do you know more about how the frontal lobes react to stimulants and why they can make someone sleep better?? I've had this reaction too but never really researched it.

Hope you are well

Thanks Jerry,

Doing ok

Stims light up the brains frontal lobe establishing order and quietning the rest of the brain, when the response is good.

An anology-stims are like an orchestra conductor, who directs the orchestra (brain) to play in sync, harmoniously, when the stims wear out or are not there, the orchestra (brain) plays out of order with no tunefull music to be produced, eratic head sound.

simple I know but makes sense.

Simple is good. Your analogy was very helpful. But should I be feeling sedated about one hour after taking the Dexedrine? And how come two weeks ago it didn't have this effect? I would this indicate that I have ADD which I never knew I had or is it just calming down bipolar symptoms?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am really intrigued.

I agree, the stimulant didn't "put" me to sleep. I was quite wide awake for the 1 1/2 to 2 hours after I took it, but as soon as it started to crash... I fell into a VERY solid sleep.
