LUNESATA Just out Now April 4th!!!

Posted by ZenTen on April 5, 2005, at 9:22:50

I recieved a message from the makers of Lunesta that as of April 4th, they just recieve the FINAL Approval and can ship to pharamcies ad lib!!! (About time)

I called 4 local pharmacies, however: Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Walmart and CVS, and not one of them had it, had heard of it or knew when it be in!

I told them to find out for me! The most helpful pharmacy was Rite-Aid, where the pharmacist called her wholesaler and was told, "They still don't know when it will come in... I am sure it's been ordered....try back in 2-3 days"

So, if you have a RX for it and bring it to the pharmacy that should get the ball-rolling because then, because it's approved and they don't have it in stock, they are obligated to order it for you!

I keep hearing about this stuff.. What exactly is the mechanism behind it?

Is it an AD? What neurotransmitters does it target?

Lots of people around here are excited about it, so it makes me curious.

..............................
It's a new sleeping med in the U.S. It's an isomer or something like that of the already, long-existing Zoplicone, which I guess has been available for a long time in other countries. It's suposed to be an improvement on it, supposedly. (I am skeptical)

I tend to think, from what I read, that it pretty much targets the same transmitters as Ambien (Benzo 1, more so than 2) and most likely is very similar in effect... I don't see why it would have any antidepressant effect anymore than any other sedative, however.

Lunesta supposedly doesn't ''poop'' out as quick as Ambien does...time will tell. It is approved for long-term chronic use, unlike all other sleep medicines....at least by the F.D.A standards.

To date, I have not found any impartial reports on it. All studies are done or funded by the manufaturer, Sepacor. The impression, most impartial doctors/people get, is that it is another sleeping aide that wont work too much better or too much worse than what is out there already.

Since it's about the same price as Ambien, it seems like a good idea to at least try it for sleep, if you so desire a change or improvement on what you are already taking.

Good luck finding a pharmacy that stocks it for another week though!

Yes, it's for long-term insomnia, and supposedly isn't addictive. It also carries AD properties. I logged onto their site yesterday, and registered to receive their updates. It had a beautiful butterfly on the screen fluttering about, and it was very calming to look at. If the drug works as well as I think the marketing will it will be a wonder drug. Let's hope so. We've been waiting since January. Fondly, Phillipa

Hey thanks for the update!! I didn't get any email from then even tho I signed up for updates. I called two pharmacies including Wal-Greens and they said they didn't have it. I'm glad to know that it's shipping!
