I don't mean to be cynical, and bring you down but unfortunatly any pill that made one happy after just one dose would probably have "abuse potential" gasp! (I hate that phrase)

Drugs like Amneptine did produce happiness qite frequently, but because of the "abuse potential" they are fround upon.
The Puritans within the medical movement froun upon any happy pill.

Thats what were up against!

PS: sorry if spelling and message is a bit incoherent, its late at night and I cant sleep!

Adderall does not make me happy, it has only a very mild effect on me, in a way that at least for me I cannot picture why someone would abuse it.
My brain cells must be so burnt out and blunted that it takes a good whollop to affect anything.

im very experienced with adderall as ive been taking it the last two years for my add.

it is most decidedly *not* a happy pill. has terrible side effects.

sheesh i was being somewhat facetious.

my ideal happy pill would be one that put you in a good upbeat mood with enthusiasm and zest for life. it would be a normal happy feeling..not an amped up over the top surge that you get from snorting amphetamines or what not.

Its interesting to hear Amphetamines mentioned as happy pills, they don't have that effect on me, but maybe for some.

For me GHB was my "happy chemical" it lifted my mood without making me manic or ampted.
Unfortunatly it pooped out.

Well, I think I am at the point of desperation in life (despite my faith in the Lord) that if a doctor could assure me that one certain pill would make me happy, I WOULD TAKE IT.. I wouldn't even give a flip about being addicted.

If I'm going to be addicted to something, it might as well make me happy. LOL

Treatments of the future

For me and many of you the treatment that will remedy our disorder eventually will be elevating certain hormonal proteins that we are not producing proper amounts of. It will be treatments similar to insulin for diabetics or thyroid hormone for hypothyroid patients. I do not produce addequate levels of Inhibin B. Other people do not produce enough of other elements. In an article by Jennifer Altman titled " Gonadal Hormones Humour the Brain" in which she reports on presentations of neuroendocronologists presentations at a conference in 2003 organized by the IPSEN FOUNDATION, it seems they are on the verge of understaning how hormones affect mood and cognition. Our biochemistry is quite an orchestra of interacting elements. For so many years the majority of Pdocs have bought into the theory that mood disorders are caused by imbalances of seretonin, NE or dopamine. This is clearly not necessarily so. Those of us treatments resistant sufferers are in a tough position. One day appropriate treatment will be available. But how do we survive till then? Best wishes.

I don't think that any drug could possibly have immediate happiness effects without causing a letdown. If anything, it would be a combination drug that has acute effects AND effects that take place over time. Kind of like the xanax/prozac combo for anxiety. Xanax for now, prozac for later. Amineptine is one of those happy drugs because acutely it inhibited the reuptake of dopamine which is sort of like a stimulant actions and then the norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake (?) caused the long term antidepressant effects. I'm also interested in what the spontaneous orgasms were like...

Balanced Biochemistry

For most of us in my opinion have a biochemical imabalance. Eventually after understanding of these processes, treatments will be established to supplement whatever hormonal protein, nuerosteroid etc., that we are not producing enough of. When our biochemistry is in the proper balance we feel fantastic and have no desire to ingest a foreign substance(happy pill}.
