cymbalta-too much or too little

Posted by lois on March 30, 2005, at 15:43:32

I have been on Cymbalta 60 mgs about for about 3 weeks. I am not anxious, but very drowsy.I don't know if I am depressed or just tired. We don't know that if I decrease the dose and am less sleepy I will feel better, or if we increase the dose will be more awake and less sleepy, and feel possibly less depressed. We might add Wellbutrin to help. It seems norepinephrine has possibly made me less activated than more activated/or maybe I don'thave enough? Again I don't know if I am just tired or depressed *with* the tiredness. Definitely not anxious.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks.
Lois

I found Cymbalta to be sedating, but it really took about six weeks before my pdoc was willing to adjust the dose -- and I think he was right, because things changed along the way. Give it a bit more time before you start adjusting the dose, and see if it gets less sedating.

Good luck.

I agree with Racer. It takes a while for you to get "settled in" with Cymbalta. The waiting is the hardest part.

I've been on 60mgs of cymbalta for about 6 months now, and also Lamictal 200mgs, I was having similar problem with being drowsy, also lacking in energy, it completely lifted me out of my depression and helped with my anxiety but the drowsiness and lack of energy was a problem, so I suggested a stimulant to my pdoc and he started me on 20mg Adderall XR about a week ago. I feel like I have found a miracle drug with it. I have so much energy and I feel ALIVE. Its great, I just hope that it continues to work, and doesn't cause me any more anxiety or or make me manic. You might think about that. It may or may not be a good thing for you, but its a suggestion.

I am also in lamictal. I became tolerant to ritallin, adderall, strattera.I just refilled my prescription today, so looks llike I have been on 60mgs of Cymbalta for a month.I started Cymbalta about 2 months ago.So the waiting should be almost up. My pdoc is going to let me take 40 mgs and see if it helps. I am less drowsy in the afternoon and I think, less depressed, so this might work. We'll see.

What time do you take your Cymbalta? I started out taking it in the morning, but I was getting so sleepy in the afternoon, so I started taking it in the afternoon (late -- like 4:30 or 5:00) and that seemed to help.

Thanks.

Racer,
I decided to stay on 60 mgs and try taking it at night. How much are you on now? How long before you stopped being sleepy and not motivated?

How is the Cymbalta and Adderall going with you? I've just increased Cym from 10 pellets (which was working fine except for chronic anxiety) to 30mgs and cannot wake up. I'm going to start taking Adderall and would love to hear how this combo has treated you since you posted in March. - BarbaraCat
