Is Zoloft Sedating?

Posted by Phillipa on March 2, 2005, at 17:40:41

I just went up on my zoloft from 25mg to 50mg, and found that I slept till l0:30 today. If you've been following my Posts you'll know I have trouble sleeping. I cut it back down today to see if I was as tired as I was yesterday. I also paid a lot of money to get the namebrand Valium for sleep. Posters recommended namebrand as being better than generic so i thought I'd give it a try. Now I'm trying to figure out which one is was. I'm not complaining, just want to know so I can adjust my meds accordingly. I was told I could "play" with the zoloft doseages. Thanks, Fondly, Phillipa

Phillipa,

I'm guessing it was a combination of BOTH. The good brand valium and upping your dosage on Zoloft.

I know when I went slightly up on my Lexapro (when I was still taking it), it would make me loopy/sleepy.

It shouldn't be. My experience with it, and I am going through it again right now just having re-started it, is that it is stimulating, at least for the first few weeks. I suspect that the 'real' Valium is probably just more efficient, more potent than the generic. Then again, SSRI's affect everyone differently so you may just be having a different reaction.

i would say the valium personally, being that zoloft is somewhat stimulating

If it's the valium, then that says a lot for the name brand. That would also explain why I needed l0mg of generic at night. Thanks, Phillipa

Zoloft knocked me on my butt for weeks, I could barely get out of bed to eat and take care of bodily functions.
