Need a mood stablilzer/ anti-psychotic

Posted by Angela2 on February 28, 2005, at 10:51:35

Does anybody know of any anti-psychotics that don't make you sleepy in medium to high doses? What are their other side effects? I am on risperdal right now. 2mg. I went up a half a pill and it made me too tired. Does anyone know of any that won't do that? What are their side effects?

Hey! Abilify is pretty good in terms of the drowsiness issue, and doses are pretty standardized: 10, 15, 20, or 30 mgs. If you're Bipolar...are you sure you want to go the neuroleptic/anti-psychotic route? There's Lamictal, Trileptal (which I like a lot), etc. to be considered, in addition to neuroleptics.

Abilify in any dose will wake you up. Side effects are anxiety, and sleeplessness. Geodon would be a second chose, being less tiring than the others out there, but no side-effects other than that.

I'm not bipolar. Abilify made me tired, and it gave me that syndrome where you always have to keep moving and can't sit down. It also made me hunch over and walk slowly. And it made me stiff.

Abilify is known for making some experience akathasia or better known as "hell on earth."

Seroquel made me drunk, and hungover the next day. Fondly, Phillipa

I'm on a low dose of Seroquel, and at first it made me feel exhausted and out of it the next day, but this only lasted for a week (thankfully). Now I wake up more well-rested and ready to face the day than I ever have in my life.

I also work with a chronic schizophrenic poplation and we've seen the least sedation with Seroquel. It is a fine drug with a nearly non-existant potential for tardive dyskenesia and a much lower weight gain potential.

No, just feeling bad, and out of control. My mind wanted to say words, and they came out slurred. I also almost fainted when I was standing, and had to be helped back to bed. I didn't like it at all. Fondly, Phillipa
