Ok,what are the "REAL" differences, if any? Mostly concerned with blood pressure and sleep.

OK, here's my take on the Effexor vs. Cymbalta showdown: cymbalta wins. The dosing is far less complicated (think how many levels there are in Effexor; compare that to the one-size fits all in Cymbalta). My understanding is that Effexor is believed to be more Tricyclic-like in action than Cymbalta, though both will raise blood pressure. Effexor at higher doses can increase cholesterol, an effect not seen in Cymbalta (so far, anyway). Effexor may be associated with Tardive Dyskinesia; this association has not popped up (yet) with cymbalta.

I guess that's (TD) a side effect you don't associate with Ad's. I took Cymbalta, but I felt on better, oh well! Fondly, Phillipa

hey! yeah the TD effect from Effexor took me by surprise...I read about it in some mental health magazine. It would seem that its rare, especially compared to the antipsychotics, and there don't seem to have been any studies on the issue as of yet. The only other antidepressant I know of that causes TD is amoxapine/Asendin.
