First time to stop Lamictal/Meds-Need Input

Posted by theo on January 26, 2005, at 23:13:31

I've tried Lamictal for the past 6 months with okay results but to many side effects. I did taper down to 25mg to play it safe and after 2 days of completely stopping I feel fear, uneasy. Is this common? It may also be anxiety of not being on any med.

I'm 40, drank for the past 20 years and taken meds for the past 10 years. I've been sober now for 2 years and want to know where the heck I am (mentally) since I really don't know!! I feel like I have a mixed bage of social anxiety/OCD and my pdoc isn't certain whether I'm BPII or ADD. I've never tried a stimulant so that may be the next step. I've of course tried the SSRI group and a few anticonvulsants with mixed reviews.

It's easy to want to run back to meds at the first sign of discomfort, but think it might be better to be off meds to see what's really my core problem. My pdoc has agreed but this is freaky because I've been using something to medicate for so long.

Any input on this situation would be greatly appreciated!!
