Help! Constipation from Zoloft, what do I take?

Posted by Keko on January 25, 2005, at 14:48:38

I've been on Zoloft for about 2 months now, and I have chronic constipation. I was on Zoloft for several years (in the 90's), but never remember having been bound up so much from it before. I switched to Celexa in 2000 (which made me tired) and Lexapro (which was the worst SSRI I've been on, bad match for me) . . . so I went back to Zoloft. I'm afraid I'm going to have to discontinue the Zoloft because of the constipation (I've heard many people get diarrhea, but I am the TOTAL opposite). I really need help, any ideas?

Hi, I take zoloft and topamax, and needless to say, I get constipation also. I found some tea at the heathfood store that has Senna leaves(?) in it. It said on the box that is cleanses the body. IT DOES. I don't drink it every day, but maybe once a week or so. I hope that helps you some. I'm sure someone will be able to help you at your pharmacy or health food store.-L

I am on Cymbalta and have a little constipation problem, too. I have been taking about 250mg of magnesium citrate at bedtime and that seems to help a little. (It also helps me relax a little and sleep a smidgen better.)
