(Redirect) New to Paxil and Xanax

Hello Everyone,

I'm depressed and feel hopeless at times because of all of the information I read about Paxil. I have use'd Effexor,Wellbutrin, and Lexapro over the last few years and have had some success with each for a time. I've been off meds now for 6 months or so and last week I started 10mg Paxil for my Panic Attacks and Depression. I also take .5mg of Xanax when I feel its neccessary for Panic Attacks until the Paxil kicks in. Tomorrow I will up my dose of Paxil to the full 20mg as prescribed by my Doctor. I'm hoping for success but I'm really afraid of all that I have read about the withdrawal problems of Paxil. I also read that Xanax with Paxil is not recommended. Has anyone had these together? Am I endanger?
Has anyone had success with Paxil? A close friend used it with success but all I read most of the time is that people are scared of it with the withdrawal problems and the effects of Paxil. I feel so hopeless, the only thing I have not tried is Prozac. What should I do? Am I crazy? Does anything really help?

Hopeless for Answers,

Donnie

> Thanks Alexandra for replying. I have a hard time talking about my life at times because I don't want to appear weak. I'm 37 with a Wonderful Wife and Three Wonderful Kids. I try to act happy as much as possible but I really hurt on the inside mentally and physically. I really think my mental condition makes my body hurt. I'm hoping that Paxil is the answer. I've had withdrawal symptons with Effexor. It lasted a few days; mostly bad headaches and felling zappy. What have you used for your depression and how does it affect you?

Donnie

Hi Donnie!

Although not everybody will respond the same to any one medication, I just wanted to tell you that I used Paxil for a number of years and had great success on it for depression, anxiety and panic. And, I believe that I must have been one of the fortunate ones, because I did not experience any withdrawal symptoms that caused me any distress or in any way disrupted my life. Before I stopped using it, I had been significantly reducing my dose and was even taking it every other day or every three days, so it was really painless for me.

I also use Xanax, and have found it to be extremely useful for my anxiety. When I was on Paxil, I didn't have to use the Xanax as much (once the Paxil had kicked in), but it was a godsend when I needed it.

So, for me, it was a great combo which I used for over 6 years.

Try not to get discouraged by what you read. Everybody responds differently. You have to take what you read with a grain of salt because sometimes those people who have had problems are the most vocal. And, don't forget to discuss any concerns you have with your doctor.

Good luck to you and take care.

Hey. I have been on hmm...

prozac, effexor, serzone, seroquel, resperidone, olanzapine, chlorpromazine, amitriptalene, mellaril, imovane, diazepam, temazepam, clonazapam, cogentin, and I forget the rest...

Some of them are anti depressants, some are anti-psychotics (for anxiety mostly), some are for sleep, some are anti anxiety etc.

I have found that medication hasn't really helped me. Therapy is what is good for me. But everyone is different.

:-)

I have taken both. I am totally lost as to the withdrawal effects of Paxil. I dropped it cold turkey, just as I have with every other med I have ever taken, and there have been alot. I have never seen the first withdrawal effect from anything, Paxil being one of the many. Bottom line with me in the past has been, if I am not happy with the effect, or if I am just tired of taking something, I have tossed it in the trash. I am NOT suggesting this is the correct way to do it, but I have done it every single time, most recently with 450mg of Wellbutrin.
Xanax did absolutely nothing for me except function as a sedative. It's also known for being extremely habit forming, but it never felt that way to me.. Everyone reacts differently to meds, and I just put it in that category.

Best wishes
Broken

Hi,

I've done the same thing with everything I have taken. The Effexor gave me bad headaches for a couple of days. I took 300mg a day. I guess I worry everytime I start something new because I don't want to depend on any medication. I just wish I could live a normal life without the depression and body aches.

Maybe Someday.
