summoning Scott (SLS) - memantine update

Posted by emme on January 23, 2005, at 19:16:45

Hi Scott (and anyone else who's interested in memantine),

This is either my third or fourth day at 10 mg. It's helping the depression and I'm not too anxious. It's low in side effects overall, but I feel loopy and foggy-headed. Slightly derealized/depersonalized and detached. I'm tired and I get dizzy when I stand up. I didn't expect postural hypotension with this stuff. I'll be patient and see what happens over the next few days - unless I get too frustrated. Maybe this is like the drunken feeling you described. Stay tuned.

hope you're doing okay.

Yay!

Not so yay.

Will do. :-)

Thanks for the update. Depending on how you do with with higher dosages, I might consider tying it again.

Thanks for your concern. I have been in a holding-pattern. I am waiting to try mifepristone and possibly ketoconazole/metyrapone. In the meantime, I am gleaning some small benefit from:

Parnate 60mg
nortriptyline 100mg
Lamictal 300mg
Abilify 10mg

The Parnate + nortriptyline help only so much, and represent a dead-end, but I can't think of anything better to do to help keep my head above water.

This is no fun.

!!!
My doctor and I have been bouncing around the idea of trying mifepristone. She was going to try to get in contact with someone to find out more. Anything you can tell me about what you're planning to do and what you've learned about it would be great. Are you waiting to get a hold of the drug, or waiting for insurance approval or something?

How tolerable to you find the nortriptyline?

Agreed. Worse still when you try something for which there's not a whole lot of clinical experience yet.

Wow, I read over your med list, and was surprised that those meds could be combined with Parnate--I thought that was a no-no, esp. tricyclics, or is it OK because nortryp acts primarily on norepinephrine?

Scott - are you in the US? If so, how do you plan to get a hold of mifepristone? My doc talked to Novartis and they said they only allow it for people with Cushing's and otherwise do not market or sell it for anything else. My doc wanted to try that with me as well and we were both upset it wasn't available. We're looking for similar alternatives...
