Phasing out Lamictal

Posted by Sebastian on January 20, 2005, at 18:18:55

I don't like it, makes me stupid, unaware, forgetful, etc. Don't realy need it. Wasn't taking that high a dose. I'm already half dose, and feeling much better, more smart, aware, with it, in tune.

Me to. I went to the doc today and I'm dropping it. I read so many positive things and I hung in there for about 5 months, but it just caused me to be jumpy, racing mind and I would take my meds and five minutes later not remember!

I also had red, burning eyes off and on, plus hip joint pain, bursitis.

Oh well, wasn't meant to be I guess.

I've been on Lamictal for over 2 years and am sick and tired of the side effects. I still have wicked blurred vision, perceptual difficulties, confusion, hip pain, decreased flexibility, racing thoughts and continue to cycle in and out of moods.

I could take all of that just to not be depressed but it lost it's effectiveness.

I have been feeling so much better since I dropped to 100 mg. a day from 200.

I gave it almost 3 months. I knew I didn't like it on the first dose. But later convinced myself that it was lifting depression. Only problem was I was getting stupid, which didn't go away, were I would put big cuts in my head by accident, just being clumsy, the first day on it. Noticed that I was getting realy stupid at work, not knowing what I was doing, not thinking. Its all going away now, and I'm only half off it. Soon enough I will quit. Right back to normal.

I took it for two years and just finished tapering off it. I couldn't stand it. It made me jumpy, gave me a low frustration tolerance, gave me insomnia, etc. The only problem was it did help with the cycling. I started Depakote yesterday. Whatever happens, I won't go back on Lamictal.

Ya, I had a low frustration tolerance. Now I'm thinking I will stop tomorow.

I was yelling at people at work and cutting people off on the road. It was horrible. I've seen some other people on this board with the same reaction. So far no horrible side effects to the Depakote.

I've been on depakote for a year before, won't do that again. I went back up to the half dose, on lamictal, maybe I will finish what I have left. Atleast I'm taking less, and feeling better. None was too little. Thanks for the anger reminder, I might have gone back up to 100, and probably not liked it.

Sabastian,

What dosage of Lamictal were you on? I'm taking 150mg of it and feel pretty good, not the racing thoughts etc. others have suffered from it......but I did notice my balance is a little more out of whack, meaning at times I stumble around and especially my golf game has stunk since I've been on it (for about a year now). C

Could it have some impact on coordination??

Maybe I should as my doctor to reduce it.
