Focus, motivation and energy.....

.....are three things which I lack!

If you have a similar problem to me, have you tried Wellbutrin, selegiline, modafinil (Provigil) or adrafinil (Olmifon)? Did they help? What side effects did you have?

I tried Provigil and Adderall. Provigil work miraculously for me for the first few weeks, then nothin'; I increased the dosage but again found that they just stopped giving me any boost whatsoever.

Adderall worked well at first, too. With that, however, it seemed to cause extra depression for me as the drug built up in my system. My pdoc is guessing that too much norepinephrine and/or dopamine "overwhelmed" me.

What worked for me was getting off Surmontil and Lexapro, and moving to Clomipramine. The side effects from Clomipramine were too much for me (see previous thread), although the drug worked well for depression without causing an energy zap like I noticed with Lexapro.

I'm now currently tapering up on Cymbalta, hoping for the best.

I have found both Wellbutrin and Adderall help with focus, motivation, and energy. Perhaps the Adderall helps a little more in all those areas but the effects seem to be more transient.

It seems the drugs that tend to increase motivation and energy also tend to increase generalized anxiety as well which I have noticed for myself but not to a debilitating degree. I think others have experienced it more so.

What I'm working on now is to try and find something that deals with my social anxiety a little better.

Perhaps Parnate will work better in that deparment. The Vitex that I was taking the last month for my social anxiety has seemed to poop out. It has weak dopamine agonist properties which I think are responsible for the therapeutic effect that I was experiencing. It also seems to poop out on me after a month though so it needs to be cycled. It's by far the best thing I've used for my social anxiety but unfortunately it needs to be cycled.

I'm a little weary of playing with my meds at the moment since my combo is working so effective for my depression and energy at the moment. I was hoping an increase in my Adderall dosage could be used as a substitute for the Vitex with it's dopaminergic properties. It does tend to give me a little more peripheral stimulation than I'd like.

I find the stimulating effects of caffeine a lot more smooth and enjoyable, which I find makes it much more prosocial in that regard.

I'll have to discuss the Parnate option with my pdoc during my next visit to see if it's worth changing to.

Prozac 20mg (morning)
Wellbutrin SR 450mg tid
Adderal XR 15mg (morning)
Tyrosine 6 grams bid
Caffeine (200-400mg) PRN

Hello Brain!

Have you tried Dexedrine instaed of Adderall... you could try the modified release. What do you think?

I was thinking of trying the Dexedrine modified release form. I thought it would suit my needs a little better.

I may be switching to Parnate shortly though, so I may not have to follow that option.
