abilify concentration memory problems...

Posted by mike13 on December 12, 2004, at 19:58:24

I have been suffering from concentration and memory problems before starting abilify, so my doctor put me on this med in order to counter some of these effects..

The first couple of weeks I did fine but then my concentration and memory problems started to reoccur.. it seems it gets worse with every pill I take.. Im petrified that this pill maybe causing some damage to me... I've only been on the smallest dose for about a month... my doctor says it could be, because the prozac had depleted from my system (stopped taking it about 3 months ago) but im just not buying it// Anyone experience anything similar??

I thought I was the only one who had problems with language development on Abilify. I take a small dose, 2.5 to 5 mg daily, and I find myself stumbling, staggering, stammering over words during conversations with others. For that reason I occasionally stop taking it.

I believe the reason for this is that Abilify is a very potent anti-psychotic. I take Zyprexa and Seroquel (for sleep) and they don't seem to affect my speech like Abilify does.

On the plus side, Abilify makes me more sociable and gets me out of my shell. So I guess it's all a trade off. It was good reading your post. By the way, what type of movement disorder are you experiencing on Abilify?

My thoughts aren't necessarily slow, they're just messed up, making it difficult at times for me to express myself. Regarding memory, I've always had poor memory and thus I don't think Abilify has anything to do with my current memory problems.

was doing quite well on abilify 1.875mg of abilify every 2 days... stopped taking it for 3 or 4 months... then when major stress hit... ouch... wasn't worth it (thought it would go manic or psychotic on antidepressant + stimulant but just got depressed) so now i'm back on the same dose... i'd say it's worth it... for now...

my memory and concentration has gone to hell since starting abliify. it's funny some doctors thing it has different effects (and it must, or else you wouldnt have gotten it, i presume).

interesting.

it helps to keep a pad of paper handy-- keep a running "to-do" list for focus and concentration, and jot down notes of things you dont want to forget.

or maybe a med change is in order..
