Hi. I am currently taking 10 to 20 mg of Adderall XR and 200 mgs of Wellbutrin. I have been on these two medications for 5 years and they have been extraordinarily helpful for both inattentive ADD and depression. I believe I have stayed the exact same weight (not overweight or underweight) the entire time I have been taking these medications but I don't really know because I do not weigh myself.
When I finish my Masters degree in 2006, I would like to go off of the Adderall, and remain on the Wellbutrin only. The problem: I am also a recovered bulimic/anorexic and am terrified of gaining weight when I go off of the Adderall. My body weight according to my physicains is perfect now and I want to remain this weight. Does obesity automatically happen when tapering off of a moderately low dose of Adderall, or can I do things to counteract this? I am terrified.
According to what others have said about their experience with weight gain after withdrawal, there seems to be no hope, and I will put on excessive amounts of weight no matter what. Is this true? Is there any hope at all or am I doomed? Does anyone have any remotely positive stories that they can post regarding their experiences with discontinuing Adderall?

I can't speak for adderall but I do know that people on wellbutrin tend to be weight nuetral or lose weight. I don't think you should have a problem with quitting providing you have your doctor's consent.
By the way, I did gain some weight coming off ADs - cold turkey. Instead of taking my meds, I turned to food for comfort. This was a big sign that I shouldn't have stopped my meds. Now that I'm back on them, my appetite has decreased and I've lost a bit of weight.
This is the end of the thread.
