BuSpar is WORKING for me!

Posted by anxiety_free on December 8, 2004, at 19:10:27

Hi everyone! I thought I'd post a good-news thread...I was recently started on BuSpar to replace Klonopin. I had my doubts, but its worked! I'm more serene and calm, and I really don't miss the Klonopin, although it is an *excellent* medication for many people. Anyone want to share their BuSpar experiences, negative or positive? I'm interested to hear how other people have done on this med and I'm trying to understand how it works, too.

Would you share your details?

Like...

How long you've been on
Start up stuff
Dose, when you take it... etc..

I'm happy with my Klonopin, but I'm always interested in options, should I need it.

Thanks in advance

Great about your success, good for you!

Hey! I take 200 mgs Tofranil, 60mgs Cymbalta, 20mgs Abilify, 60mgs Adderall, and 30mgs BuSpar, 15 mgsX2 daily. It replaced Klonopin, 4-6mgs/daily and the occasional xanax or librium. I take it when I wake up, and again before dinner. Anyway, I agree that Klonopin is a good med, but if you need to consider options, BuSpar is a pretty good one, especially if you're already on an anti-depressant that works at least somewhat. BuSpar took about 8-10 days to really work; now I'm not just calmer, I'm HAPPIER. My doc Rx'd the BuSpar after a taper from Klonopin; from what I understand, going from benzos to buspar is done after a taper; the two aren't combined. Good luck!

Good for you, I love success stories.

I do really well on low dose K, but do like to know of others good luck on meds I (stress **I**) consider a bit less "caustic" than some of the options out there. K's my good treatment and has been for a while.

Again, good for you!!

Hey Free

How long did you taper for?
Did it take you long to get off K?
Are you taking Adderall 4 ADD?

Cheers

Hey! It only took about a month to taper off Klonopin, and it wasn't bad at all really. I was taking adderall for add at a lower dose; my doc gradually increased it to help boost my antidepressants and to help the add.

buspirone and clonazepam can be safely combined. They are not really similar meds. Clonazepam works on GABA while buspirone works on the three monoamines, to varying degrees.

Advantages to buspirone: AD effects for some, no discontinuation syndrome.

Advantages to clonazepam: powerful anxiolytic.

It is noteworthy that clonazepam is approved for panic disorder, while buspirone's indication is for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which, I would argue, is indistinguishable from milder forms of depression.
