doing better

I started a course of rTMS, with my home device.

My suicidiality has markedly diminshed but I am still scared of what it might be doing to my brain with this contraption.

I enjoyed listeing to some Billy Joel today :)

Hate to use the statement "it was like a light went on" but that is the case.

When I suffered from anhedonic depression I couldn't enjoy music at all. The first sign of recovery was musical enjoyment.

How funny, just today I was in my car enjoying some music, and thinking this same thing--that perhaps the best measure of how I am doing is my ability to listen to and enjoy music.
When I am bad off I cant listen because happy music reminds me of better times and the horror of how long ago it was that I knew what feelng normal was like and when I could experience joy; and sad music heightens my current despair.
As I am thinking of how I should monitor my moods, maybe I should play some music each day and record my reaction.
Linkadge, I am so glad you are feelng some relief.

Shortly after starting Lexapro I lost interest in music, started listening to sports talk radio which I never did before. I wonder what that means.

Hi!

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Is there any way that your pdoc could refer you for rTMS rather than using your own device? You sound worried about the safety of your machine.

Regards,
Ed.

Is that similar to the FDA approved AlphaStim device which requires a prescription? Those cost like $400 to $800 though. That uses Cranial Electro-Stimulation (CES) http://www.reynoldsoffice.com/1111-2.htm
Apparently it gives a certain amount of 'high' hence the need for a prescription from a doc. It's supposed to calm EEG brain wave patterns.

http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/p040856.html
"Transcranial magnetic stimulation is experimental; it is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of any disorder."

I'm just afraid that I am frying my brain thats all.

I can certainly notice some sort of dopaminergic effect. Change in motor skills, depth of emotion, anger, concentration etc.

I am feeling better but I hate to use something that is so (how do I say it?) experimental.
