These side-effects are still a mystery.

Posted by lostforwards on November 29, 2004, at 20:13:24

I've been off my AP for a while - 2 months. My left arm doesn't swing, while my right arm does.

I feel A LOT better now than I did when I first came off the meds. Almost as good as I felt while tappering off. This has been a really weird rebound.

I felt better on the meds, like I was used to them at that dose. I felt normal like I had never started them.

When I was on them even at the dose that gave me difficulty breathing and stiffness in my muscles ( but I felt fine emotionally ), both of my arms were swinging but I had dyskinesia in my fingers.

What's going on? why has my arm stopped swinging, while the dyskinesia in my fingers has disappeared.

Oh and NOW, a funny symptom is emerging... my left knee cap began to hurt in the evenings, about a week or two ago. I'm not sure if this is related to the side-effects or not.

I keep thinking something that happened while I was on the meds might've had something to do with it. I was using the bath room, standing up, and my left knee gave way. It didn't last though and only was momentary.

I also find if I take a benzo at night, cerax, when I wake up in the morning, my right eyebrow is very arched. It does this to some extent anyway, but the benzo makes it more. I also get a bit of the difficulty breathing in the mornings. It's more like shallow breating.

Any ideas?

I'm presuming you mean your right arm swings of its own volition, not that your left arm is paralyzed? If the one arm swings without your wanting it to, that would suggest you're still experiencing dyskinesia, which I would think merits a visit to your doctor, or at least a phone discussion.

I've never heard anyone else describe a pain the knee in relation to psych meds. Which doesn't mean it couldn't be a lingering side effect, but it's probably something else. If as you say your knee seemed to give way at one point, you may have strained it. Pain can often come quite a while after a minor injury - you injure something a little without realizing it, then continue to use the injured area and it doesn't get the chance to heal. Over time it just gets worse. Try icing it several times a day for a few days and see if it improves.

My left arm just stopped swinging over time. It's not paralysed but the usual arm swing is gone. The right arm is doing what it always used to do. Both arms were swinging when I was on the AP, while I had weird involuntary movements in my fingers that would happen after I'd move them.

The funny thing is the problem in my fingers is gone, but my left arm's usual swing which was there on the AP is gone now.
