Anyone think this dose of Klonopin is high?

Posted by BRC on November 26, 2004, at 11:31:33

Hi, I take 4mg of Klonopin daily 2mg in the morning 2mg in the evening. Have been taking the dose for over two years now.

Is this considered a high dosage.

Just wondering?

Anyones thoughts or ideas very much welcomed.

Thanks,

BRC

I don't think it's that high. Most sources cite 1-4 mgs for maintance dosing with some wiggle room on the low and high side. Seizure control dosings can be in the 'teens. So many variables come into play when obtaining a good dose from one person to another. I think more important is good control and knowing and avoiding the pitfall areas of benzos use rather than focusing on the number of miligrams. If you are not developing tolerance issues and other untoward effects and that's a dose that working for you, I think it sounds reasonable.

Is your doc okay with this dose for you?

I also have a dosing range. Mine is on the low side and some would deem the dose I take as subtherapeudic, but I'm great with it and not so great without it. So, I'm of the belief a "slighly higher than normally expected" dose, again, without problems, can work the same way.

Anxiety issues can be so life impacting. A treatment that works is a blessing.

Hi Glydin :-)

If you're 'great with it and not so great without it' then it's definately not a sub-therapeutic dose!! I'm glad to hear your anxiety is under control with the clonazepam.

BRC.... I wouldn't worry about how your dose of clonazepam compares to other people's doses. With benzos, dosing is very individual. The best dose for you is the smallest dose which achieves adequate benefit without unacceptable side effects. If this is what your current dose achieves it is not excessive.

All the best...
Ed.

I agree 100% with Glydin & Ed. I use what is considered to be a very low dose of Klonopin with success. On the other hand, I seem to be needing, what might be considered, a high dose of tryptophan. We are all different in responses. Unfortuately, we have to mess around a lot and guinea-pig ourselves, before we find relief!

...how're you doing? The "thoughts", have they slowed down yet?
I was thinking of you a few days ago, cuz mine suddenly got worse again - I'm OK now. Directly related to stress (and the fact that I'm off Celexa and experimenting with the "right" dose of tryptophan, for me, as per the original ideas in this thread!).
Best wishes,
Jas

A number of folks do report this and report others benzo's aren't as likely to cause this - Xanax being the most common one, I've noted, folks here have declared not cause or make depression worse. I took a brief walk on the Xanax side of the street and found it did not control my anxiety as well. My own take on benzo's and depression, is my depressive symptoms tend to happen during periods of ill controlled anxiety. This strange cycle appears to be due to the re-emergence of panic attacks and agoraphobia. So, treating my anxiety treats my depression.

I've not found that, but nothing really surprises me when it comes to med side effects.

Hi, thanks for thinking about me. Your concern is appreciated.

Yes with the addition of the Trileptal the thoughts have slowed down and I am feeling much better.

However the thoughts still occur. But I just learn to deal with them.

I hope that you are doing well. Hope to hear from you soon.

Your friend,

BRC

clonazepam most definately worsens my depression. I have tapered down a bit with some relief.
