Stablon (Tianeptine) Experiences

Posted by Neuropharm on November 10, 2004, at 23:03:49

I have been researching Stablon (Tianeptine) for quite some time now and I've decided to try it for 3 to 6 months in hopes of bringing myself out of some moderate depression. While there is plenty of technical information on the pharmacology of the drug available online,
I've come up short when trying to find anecdotal experience reports of those that have tried it. It's rather expensive (Assuming the standard 3 x 12.5 daily dose) when purchased online, so I'd like to get some feedback from anyone who has tried it. Also, would it be a problem to combine Stablon with the occasional Benzodiazepine in the
evenings for anxiety/insomnia symptoms? Thanks in advance for any
replies.

P.S. I was able to find a _few_ experience reports that I have found here and in usenet archives but I'd like to get a more up to date response.

Thanks again

For me, tianeptine had zero effects-no side effects, no benefits. Cecilia

I also had the same experience. However I raised the dose to 100+ and got some stimulation plus weight gain,so I stopped altogether....I think there is no problem with mixing benzo with Stablon at all.

I wish there was more info available about how tianeptine works. It supposedly has the exact opposite effect of SSRI`s, decreasing serotonin instead of increasing it, yet has about the same percentage of people who improve on it. Maybe all that means is that all these drugs are nothing but placebos. Certainly no drug except benzos has ever had any beneficial effect on me. I did take clonazepam along with the tianeptine-don`t know if that made any difference. Since for me tianeptine was one of the very rare drugs with no side effects, it`d be nice if there was some info out there on ways to augment it. My pdoc didn`t object to my taking it (ordered from overseas) but of course knew nothing about it or ways to augment it. Truthfully, he gave up on me a long time ago anyway. Cecilia

For me I could feel a definite effect from Tianeptine, but I seem to be particularly med sensitive. It worked better as an anxiolytic than as an antidepressant. I also found it mildly pro-social. The side effects were few though sometimes I would get increased heart rate and anxiety if I took more than 2 pills a day. I'm currently on Lexapro and Klonopin...If I do another trial I'd definitely try it in combination with klonopin since it works great in taking the edge off.

The action of tianeptine are a little more complex than just the exact opposite of SSRIs.

If you think of an AD in terms of its final molecular targets, Tianeptine is one of the most neuroprotective AD's out there. It protected against certain stress induced neuronal events while prozac was much weaker in this regard.

Tianeptine also stabalizes the HPA axis and immune system like all most other AD's.

linkage -

Can you link me to studies showing antidepressants stabalize BOTH the HPA axis and the immune system? Thank You.

Regarding Tianepine, a serotonin reuptake accelerater - I would imagine that regular SSRI's and Tianepine work the same because of some upregulation or downregulation of certain receptors, and Tianepine just ultimately does the same thing (with a different profile, of course - perhaps better). Its like weather you speed up serotonin creation & destruction, or stop it from being destroyed and let it overflow your brain, results in the same antidepressant effects, probably through upregulation & downregulation of specific receptors.

all the best,
JLBl2l

You are right, the end targets seem to be similar.

Most good info can be found at.

I have seen some other studies which I will try and find.
