Would Lexapro suit me?

Posted by Slinky on November 9, 2004, at 1:10:07

I have dsythemia and rapid cycling bipolar--I've had major depression now for over a year.
I tried Celexa..I stopped it due to leg twitching and it actually increased my obsessive/intrusive thoughts.
I've just about had enough of the paxil side effects..which are needing to constantly move my aching legs..diarrhea..and a craving for alcohol( I haven't touched drink for 5 years)-I've been on it well over 12 weeks
Another alternative is fluoxamine but I smoke.
Also Remeron--I don't need an appetite increase as I'm about to start lithium soon.
Any ideas welcome.
Oh and because effexor helped me I'm awaiting duloxetine to be prescribed here in uk.
Any ideas?

Slinky, I wouldn't bother with the Lexapro if Celexa was unendurable. I found Lexapro just a speedier, less drowsy version of Celexa-I had all the same side effects. I quit my tiny bit of Cymbalta trial. It was just too agitating and anxiety provoking. Remeron-I agree-not worth the porkouts. Maybe it would be best to just wean off the Paxil and start up the lithium and see how it goes? SRI's are such a hassle. When I quit the Cymbalta I reverted back to Stratterra and I feel a lot better (*less* anxious). I'm also starting a once-a-day dose of SJW and it seems to calm me down and I'm tolerating it. The Stratterra+SJW isn't causing any hypomania at all--- and I can sit still without jumping up or wiggling my legs all around! cheers.. Mitch

I agree. Lexapro is suped -up Celexa from my experences, I couldn't tolerate it. The Lithium by itself makes sense to evaluate it's effectiveness. You could then augment with a mood stablizer, could't you?

Thanks Mitch & Phillipa

I guess I should wait until I start Lithium..then wean off paxil..I've been thinking to ditch AD's as lithium helps with depression..maybe the AD's are making me depressed..but they do help with anxiety but anyway..Neurontin will help with that .
Thanks again..
