Are nicotine patches safe while taking Antidepress

Posted by BRC on October 28, 2004, at 13:59:56

Hi, I am on Lexapro and Remeron. I bought some nicotine replacement patches today to help me quite the smokeless tobacco habbit. But the label on the box of patches says check with your doctor if you are on AD's

I know most meds are dangerous with MAOI's and Buproprion is used for smokeing cessation. Is this what they are referring to.

I would start at the lowest dose. I certainly experienced some interaction while taking prozac and nicotine. It is important to note however, that I was not smoking at the time, I simply tried nicotine to combat fatigue.

yes! Nicotine is an anti-depresant. The only AD I would say to not mix with nicotine is bupropion, it will raise blood pressure, not much though.
