I'm beginning a switch from Lexapro to Cymbalta today--tapering the Lexapro as I up the Cymbalta over two weeks.
Has anyone swithed from Lex to Cymbalta? Any comparisons to sexual side effects? I hear people complaining it's an issue with Cymbalta, but I'm still hoping it will be less than with Lexapro and other SSRIs....

I am in the middle of week 3. I stopped sleeping 15 hours a day, but I still go to bed really early, usually before 10. The nausea still pops in every once in awhile. My pupils are super dilated 24/7, so I'm no good for driving at night. BUT, my mood is a zillion times better, and my anxiety is completely gone.

Well I'm hoping to slowly decrease my Luvox as I up my Cymbalta but as far as sexual side effects I'm not sure. I too was on Lexapro which is basically a refined form of Celexa. It began to agitate me or it was because it wasn't working.

Oct 26,2004 Wow 15 hours sleep a day and I'm sure you got up more exhausted and depressed. I know what that's like. It's great to hear your improving and you're at week 3. That gives me some hope I'm on Day 2 and I've sensed some improvement already. As far as your pupils, you may want to see an eye dr.(opthamologist)or your family dr. if you haven't already. You mentioned nausea, I've had nausea on and off even before Cymbalta, but I know something that will help. Try chewing some crystallized ginger slowly, it works. Drink some water though, it's a little tangy. You can buy it at the grocery store it's about $3-$4 a bag. Or you can go go to a health food store. Hope this helps, take care.

Well Remar I really can't say except that this is my second day on Cymbalta 30mg and my anxieties have seemed to calm down a bit. But the starting dose is typically 30mg not 60mg, it may too much to start especially if you're sensitve. My doc started me on 30mg as I stated but said to increase to 60mg in a week, I'll only do that if needed, I'd like to save the bigger dose for a much later date, I'll see. Of course I'm also on Luvox too but at a lesser dose cause it didn't seem to be helping anymore.

That does seem a bit high, as the suggested beginning dosage is 30 mg, that is what I started on for 7 days. 60 mg is even what Lilly says is the highest recommended dosage on their site, as in their studies they saw no benefit in anyone taking a higher dose. Everyone handles it differently.

that's what i thought, i'm calling my dr. tomorrow to switch to 30mg. i can't understand why he started me on the higher dose. the side effects are pretty hard to deal with at this dose. i'm glad to hear that your anxiety is less, that's very promising. that's the main problem that i have so hopefully 30mg will help.good luck to you.

shiz, the side effects are anxiety, not wanting to eat and not being able to sleep for long. but remeber i said my dr. started me off at 60mg which i'm sure must be to high for me, drugs effect people in different ways and that does'nt mean it will do the same to you. i plan to go to 30mg tomorrow and i will let you know how it goes.

Actually, I know a rep and Lilly is saying to start at 60mg, although if I were to try it I would probably start at 30mg just in case I had a negative reaction.

Your doctor is right. The Lilly reps are telling them to start patients at 60mg.

Wow I'm suprised at that but to each his own I guess. I just prefer to start lower then work up if I need to. That's also because I've been on Luvox 100mg 3X daily for the last 3 to 4 years and it stopped working. I didn't want to fast of a change but now I'm down to 100mg luvox along with the 30mg Cymbalta of couse. Today I didn't even take Cymbalta(which would be Day3)because I was up all night on my computer. But I did feel a little low so I'll take it tommorow. I wonder why it's not increased in 10mg increments after the 30mg starting dose.

is anyone here that is on cymbalta sensitive to taking medicine? i think my problem is that after i take it i sit there and try to see if i have any side effects and dwell on it and that is why i am not wanting to take it, it took me over a week to start taking buspar after it was prescribed to me

Yes I am shiz, I'm very sensitive. When I started Cymbalta on the 25th I was already on Luvox 100mg 3X a day which wasn't working very well anymore. Well when I took Cymbalta, I felt so much better that I on my own decreased my Luvox to 100mg once a day. That lasted two days, now I feel crappy again. So yesterday which was the 28th I upped my Luvox to 200mg day. Today I'll go back up to my full dose, I'm hoping that I'll feel better in the next couple of days. So I concern myself with all of it(side effects, effectiveness, and interactions with other meds.) I know where you're at. I can only tell you my experience and offer encouragement but I can't tell you what to do. Is anyone else out there currently on Luvox or other SSRI and starting Cymbalta?

this is remar, i was on cymbalta for only three days at 60mg and i could not take the side effects so i quit. i've been on alot of the antidepressants too and none of them have continued to work for me. i'm trying the natural way now with 5-htp, gaba, a high protein diet all through the day and of course vitamins and i've been feeling pretty good. there's a book called The Mood Cure that's great for people like us.it explains why your low on neurotranmiters and how you can fix it without medication. i'm going to give it my best shot because i'm so tired of the meds.

Hey Remar, I don't blame you for wanting to go the natural way. It would be best to do it under the supervision of a naturopathic doctor, but you can do it on your own too. I've heard of the mood cure and I have a copy of it. I too am going natural thru a nutritionist and I'm on some good supplements, but she couldn't give me anything specifically for depression because I'm on an antidepressant but I read that you can add those natural things while cutting back your meds slowly, I'll have to talk to her more about that. Hope it works out. Now I know everyone is different but I'll just throw this out there. I tried 5-HTP on my own with my Luvox and become more agitated so I stopped it. I tried SAM-E by itself and that didn't seem to work. My nutrionist said you have to try to get a good quality product. GABA is one I've never tried, I'd like to though, it's calming in a 100mg dose I believe. Anyway I'm going on. Take care and hope it works for you.
