lamictal and celexa combo

Posted by yvette01826 on October 4, 2004, at 9:12:43

I have fibromyalgia with chronic fatigue, anxiety, and depression.

I was taking 20mg of celexa and 50 mg lamictal. (I also take .25mg klonopin before bed). The combo was doing well for a few months, then began to have symptoms again.

I recently upped my lamictal to 75mg with 20mg celexa. I feel like a zombie. Im exhausted with body tension (tight head, teeth clenching). Its been 4 weeks.

Is it possible that the lamictal is increasing the celexa? My doc says my symptoms are more of celexa side effects than lamictal (sweating, fatigue, headache, hunger).

Do you think these effects will pass? Lamictal is suppose to be stimulating.

I hope you can help.

Thanks

I am on the same combo, but I've titrated up to 175 mgs of Lamictal. I found the zombie (no affect) thing went away when I decreased my Celexa and increased the Lamictal. Here's hoping the effectiveness doesn't fade, this is a winning combo for me. Did you increase your Celexa? If so, that's probably the cause

Hi Craig

I did not go up on my celexa. My doc did suggest trying that as well as reducing the lamictal (one at a time).

I tried reducing the celexa for a few days (not long enough, im sure) to 15mg's and didnt feel any change. Now Im taking my 20mg celexa with 62.5mg lamictal instead of 75. No change yet there, either.

So you did feel exhausted as well on celexa/lamictal combo? Also, how long til the zombie effect faded when you lowered your celexa?

Thanks alot

The only zombie effect I felt was when I first started the lamictal and was still at 40 mgs of Celexa. I say Zombie because I felt so devoid of any emotion. I wasn't necessarily tired.

My emotions came back as the Celexa went down and the lamic went up. Also, I think for someone with depression or bpII, feeling stable and not depressed feels like you are emotionless. I feel great now.

I hope that helps,

Cheers,
Craig
