Any luck with Abilify?

Posted by mmerrynick on October 6, 2004, at 11:18:18

My psychiatrist put me on Abilify (taking me off of the Risperdal) and I became delusional. then we tried the Abilify and The Risperdal together and I got obsessive-compulsive disorder. I liked the way Abilify made me feel in the beginning, energetic and I got my weight uner control. Anyone have any idea how I can use Abilify in my medicine regime? Does it work for anyone? Maybe in combination with zyprexa, seroquel, or something else. Please tell me what works for you!

mmerrynick ,
Abilify works well for me in that it gives me more energy, helps lift my depression, and makes the hallucinations go away.

Unfortunatly at higher doses (10 to 15mg) it gives me akethsia. I run around in circles screaming. So currently I take 400mg of Seroquel to decrease the anxiety caused by the Abilify (which has now been decreased to 5mg).

Best of Luck,

Thanks for the info. Maybe my doc will try it with seroquel. Do you also take a mood stabilizer. I take lithium and it makes me urinate all the time. My doc may have to switch

Funny story, on extreemly high doses of Seroquel (like 700mg which isn't even approved) I couldn't urinate at all!

But as far as your question, right now Seroquel is supposed to be my mood stabilizer (its all good at 400mg). It was just recently approved as a mood stabilizer. But I don't know how good of a job its doing (see above posts "Rapid cycling" and "Tortured!"). I see my pdoc tomorrow. I'll let you know what he decides to do.

started at 4 mg/day, went down to 1.5 mg every 2 days for bipolar and to prevent psychosis from stimulant (ritalin) use... very strange i'm still stable (at such low dose), not at all expected

I tried various doses of abilify for about a year and had problems with insomnia and anxiety. Now I take 5 mg abilify and 5 mg zyprexa which helps with sleeping and anxiety (and ocd) but cuts the side effects of the zyprexa somewhat. It took a little time playing with dosages to find this one. I don't take an additional mood stabilizer as the zyprexa seems to help for me with that issue. I cans't say that I am always satisfied with how this works, but it has been the best combo so far.

Hey,
I said I'd keep y'all informed of the results of my pdoc visit today. I showed him my mood chart and told him about my ups and downs.

Well, he's been saying for a while that he thinks I'm bipolar, but he actually wrote it down as my diagnosis for the first time today. He can't say what type of bipolar.

And he's been thinking about putting me on Depakote. Well, I just took my first pill a few minutes ago. we'll see if this stops my cycling.

I have found that 10 mg. Abilify all by itself works great to stop my delusional thinking and hallucinations. I wonder if when you tried to switch from risperdol to abilify there was a point when the risperdol left your system, but the abilify had not gotten a chance to build up enough? I don't really know. Maybe now that the abilify has had a chance to get into your system you could stop the risperdol? I find that I do not need any other meds in conjunction with the abilify, and I also have no side effects to speak of. Talk to your Dr.
