Anyone experience occasional deep dips?

Posted by Lisa J on September 27, 2004, at 18:59:29

Hi...I've been on Effexor XR for 2 1/2 years.
First at 75, then soon after at 150, for most of the 2 years. I just increased to 225 less than 2 wks. ago, because I'm having trouble with anxiety, and I was experiencing a bad "dip" just before that. Now, I have been having 4 pit days.
Anyone experience occasional deep dips, and then go on to feel good again for a good chunk of time? Otherwise, Effexor XR has worked wonderfully for me. Lisa J

Hi Lisa J,

Oh yes, I know those deep dips all too well. I can even experience them as often as daily. I also take Effexor Xr, 350mg., but I also take a mood stabilizer, Zonegran, which has GREATLY stabilized those dips in my mood, and has led to longer and longer periods between dips. What is your diagnosis? Even though you might not experience "highs" such as true mania, sometimes a mood stabilizer helps even out those huge dips down in mood, especially if they are REALLY anxious depressions, where it gets very hard to function or makes life miserable. Or, you might just need some time for the higher dose of Effexor to kick in.

Hang in there,
Sooshi

WOW - I have the exact same thing!! I'm on Effexor 375mg and go from feeling a low-grade depression to deep "dips" every couple weeks. It has gotten so bad that I had to take a medical leave from work. I'm considering changing ADs because Effexor makes me feel so plain, no motivation, etc = anhedonia.

Interesting - I didn't think anyone else had this problem with Effexor.....IF it is the Effexor and not the nature of the depression?

Jerry
