HELP! Need a new med

Posted by Wildflower on September 20, 2004, at 10:09:53

Could one (or a few or you) please give me some advice on what med may be a good addition to my mix? I'm seeing a new PDOC next week and I want to have an idea of what may work for me.

I'm currently on 300mg of Wellbutrin XL and Trazadone. My depression is getting worse and worse and I'm starting to withdraw socially. Crying spells are becomin a common occurance. Who knows where I'd be right now if stopped the Wellbutrin.

I've already tried Effexor, Prozac, Lexapro and Zoloft with varied results. Effexor and Prozac gave me really bad mood swings and made me very angry. Lexapro and Zoloft were better but I needed to stop taking them due to some SEs.

What I'm looking for is an addition to Wellbutrin that will help with the social withdrawal and not make me gain weight.

Any advice?

I dont know how much help this will be, but maybe adding a mood stabelizer like lamictal would help even out your moods, and perhaps xanax or klonopin for the social phobia...
Also, how long did you take prozac for? It took me about 3-4 weeks to get over the rage/anger i felt with it. But now, its great....

Thanks. I'll look into it.

I was on it for a few months and I felt like an emotional wreck. The effects of alcohol increased this drastically with the added problem of losing my memory with even the smallest amount of alcohol.

Along the same lines as woolav, what type of s/e's were there with lex? I had very bad s/e's for the first month but they decreased to be almost non existent after a while. Although not perfect I have been very impressed with Lexapro. Also you may need to think about quitting alcohol. I went on and off, on and off with it forever before finally admitting that although I am not an alcoholic, I am a consistent drinker (daily) and I don't think there is any doubt it interferes with our ability to recover and the ability of the medication to do the job correctly. I find myself a lot more level without it. Best-Steve

I was on it for a while and I got through the initial wave of side effects. However, the longer I took it, the more and more I felt like I had a constant UTI. This feeling stopped after lex was out of my system. I did think that it worked for me but constantly thinking I needed to go to the bathroom was very annoying.

I do not not drink daily and I usually drink one night every few weeks (socially).
